Who is Cody Ross? For years, he's been bouncing around the league being decent. But for a dominant short season with the Marlins and his big performance for the World Series champion Giants in 2010, Ross has never been terribly impressive. A mediocre fielder, an average bat, and the ability to strike fear into only the hearts of lefties, on the whole Ross just doesn't seem that amazing.
But spring training brings some interesting hope, and Ross is one of the hopeful. Since the very first games--the doubleheaders against the college teams--Cody Ross has been absolutely killing it. Even including only the major league opponents, Ross has picked up four homers in just 38 at bats, abusing with some regularity the faux Monster in left. It's this that has our hopes up. Is Ross the perfect Fenway player, or are we setting ourselves up for disappointment with inflated spring training numbers?
