Some people think Drake Britton is worthless. Some people think he's just taking up a roster spot!
Well, others disagree, and have him as the 18th best prospect in the Red Sox' system, even after a disastrous year in Salem that saw him post a 6.91 ERA with a K/BB half of his usual figure in 97 innings of work.
While last year is the time you would have expected Britton to struggle, given his return from Tommy John surgery, he actually looked fine in his short outings in Greenville. Once he hit Salem, though, and was expected to go deeper into games, everything fell apart--often after the first inning. A lefty with a decent repertoire to work with, it might be a shame to think about Britton as a reliever. But if the pen is all that Britton is destined for, it should still be as a setup man or closer.
Then again, 2012 could just be a brand new year for Britton, and we could have our strong rotation arm back.
