Alfredo Aceves and Red Sox agree at $1.2 million
Nice to see the Sox avoided arbitration according to Yahoo sports:
Alfredo Aceves and the Boston Red Sox have agreed to a $1.2 million, one-year contract that avoided salary arbitration.
The agreement was $75,000 below the midpoint between the $1.6 million he had asked for in arbitration last month and the $950,000 he had been offered. Aceves can earn a maximum of $100,000 in performance bonuses: $25,000 each for five, 10, 15 and 25 starts, or $25,000 each for 55, 60, 65 and 70 relief appearances.
A 30-year-old right-hander, Aceves was 10-2 with a 2.61 ERA and two saves in 51 relief appearances and four starts last season,,when he made $750,000.
The agreement was announced Sunday.
Designated hitter David Ortiz is Boston’s last remaining player in arbitration.

Good value for a guy who made tens of millions
less than Daisuke, Big John, Buch, and produced better than all of them, peripherals and all. Good, too, that Atchison is also signed, as the Pen keeps getting stronger and deeper. Cant wait to see who Ben signs for #4 PS.
That would be a resounding "Nobody"

Alas, I feel this is true.

Vazquez, Harden, Sheets, Young, Garland, Penny, Duke,Webb

Vazquez sucks in the AL East
Garland might but I guess he would be the best shot of the above to stay healthy.

So then the Sox are left rummaging through the dumpster for a second or 3rd go over...yikes
They all suck based on injuries or oldness – it is all that is left and sadly probably has more potential then the Sox 4-5 right now

Out of everyone you listed
I would take Garland. Was injured last year but was a workhorse the previous 8 or 9. Would not be spectacular but would be better than the Lackey/Miller/Wakefield shat show we threw out there.
I have zero confidence that Webb and Sheets will be healthy and make a comeback, and only a small amount of confidence that Harden could.
But yeah you summed it up nicely with one word…“yikes”.

Isn't Garland out a while recovering from shoulder surgery?
I think I’d take Harden, who may not give us a full season, but might be solid in the starts he makes. And if he helps bridge us to Dice K coming back and whatever we can make a move for at the trade deadline, that might work.
I thought we’d never win it all. And then we went down 0-3 to the Yankees in 2004, and I thought it was the end of the world.
Wait ’til THIS year!
Maybe
He had the surgery the first or second week of July. I haven’t heard recently that it will keep him out to begin the season. Although from what I’ve been reading he prefers to pitch on the west coast close to home so I’m not sure how plausible it is anyway.

I would be really upset
(like, even more than I am now in general) if the Sox were unable to work out a deal with Aceves when they were that close. If that went to arb? God.

With what he did last year
I wouldn’t have been overly upset with the $1.6M if he’d gotten it. Glad he’s getting less, but the kid was worth every penny last year.

Yep. Still has my favorite quote from last year.
After he had pitched at least 2, maybe 3 games in a row (all losses) the last week of September the media asked him if he would be ready to pitch the next day which I believe was the last game of the year. Ace’s response?
“If I wake up tomorrow, I will be ready to pitch” Love it.

Yeah, another guy that plays the game the right way.
And he kept going out there until you wondered how his arm didn’t fall off.

Seriously
I bet he’s almost glad they didn’t make the playoffs, his shoulder would have exploded.

Hopefully the Sox give him a multi year deal afterwards
He’s tough and he was exciting to watch last year.
Has anyone had problems with overthemonster/sbnation lately? It keeps saying page not found or something like that sometimes unless I refresh the page
