The Atlanta Braves claimed David Carpenter off waivers Friday afternoon from the Boston Red Sox.

According to Mark Bowman, the Atlanta Braves have claimed right-handed pitcher David Carpenter off waivers from the Boston Red Sox.

Carpenter, 27, was sent to the Sox as part of the John Farrell trade, essentially to ensure it was not just a personnel - player trade. He had previously been in the Houston Astros' organization before being sent to Toronto as part of a 10-player deal.

Carpenter thrown all of 60 innings in the majors in his career with a 5.70 ERA, and while his last 45-odd innings in Triple-A have been better, there's really not much to be said about him. With room on the 40-man roster lacking, the Red Sox made the move to cut him loose before he had thrown even one inning for the team.

Perhaps the best news from all of this is that the Red Sox are now down to just the one Carpenter in the mix.
