Daily Red Sox Links: Mike Napoli, Wil Myers, Jon Lester

Jim Cowsert-US PRESSWIRE

Daily Red Sox Links brings you the best in baseball and Red Sox-related writing on these interwebs. Today the Jon-Lester-for-Wil-Myers rumors, Mike Napoli creates questions which then are answered, and buy a date with Heidi Watney.

Kansas City prospect Wil Myers is in the news with rumors floating around that A) he's available, and B) the Royals have spoken to the Red Sox about him in conjunction with Jon Lester. Yikes. That's quite the rumor du jour, eh? Can't claim to be fond of giving up Jon Lester, especially after a down year, but credit the front office for at least exploring all avenues. Myers is an intriguing player. (Rob Bradford; WEEI.com)

So the Red Sox are talking to the Royals about Jon Lester? This Myers guy must be good. R.J. Anderson at Baseball Prospectus takes a (free!) look at who Wil Myers is and why the Royals might be so willing to trade the prospect who was ranked fourth overall in baseball just this past August. (R.J. Anderson; Baseball Prospectus)

Sometimes maybe you have questions. Maybe those questions are about, oh, say... Mike Napoli. If so, Jeff Sullivan might just be your Super Duper Answer Man. How do I know? He wrote an article called Answers to Questions About Mike Napoli. Also he wears a t-shirt that says Super Duper Answer Man. It's equal parts awesome and sad. (Jeff Sullivan; Fan Graphs)

The fifth annual David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Tournament is coming up and there's an online auction to support pediatric services at Massachusetts General Hospital and hospitals in the Dominican Republic. The auction features things you can bid on, because it's an auction. Some of the things are, for example, a hitting lesson with David Ortiz himself, a date with Heidi Watney, or a who cares what a date with Heidi Watney? (hat tip to Peter Abraham and the Boston Globe)

Have you wondered why the Red Sox might be so interested in the players they appear to be interested in? Me neither, but in case you're curious... (Rob Bradford; WEEI.com)

The Royals really are kind of... mom always said if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything awful they're just awful. So maybe look no further as to why they'd trade Wil Myers, right? (Joe Posnanski; Sports on Earth)

Way late on this one, but I think it's worth remembering that just because a team has a good off-season, it doesn't mean they'll have a good regular or post season. (Joe Sheehan; Sports Illustrated)
