Mirabelli League

Okay, I might have been the worst fantasy commissioner of the OTM leagues last year, as I didn't post weekly updates on the league's performance and never even did a recap. My team finished sixth (out of six teams to make the playoffs), and yet I somehow managed to get to the championship game with a lot of luck... only to put up a wonderful goose egg to our league champion.

Star-divide

So, long overdue (and to start the discussion that I will run the league again in 2012, for all those interested in returning)... the Final Season Standings of Mirabelli League.

League Champion

Full at Evening

2nd Honolulu Menehune
3rd funny name pending
4th sgsox
5th Beckett's Box
6th Once is Enough
7th SoxStephen
8th flasox
9th Dank Indian Food
10th Donald's Ducks
11th agawam sox
12th oldguy

And to continue with the theme... I need a little help tying the team names to their OTM handles... I know, NJNative was oldguy, Beckett's Box was BentoBox, flasox was flasoxfan (I think) and I was Honolulu Menehune... but beyond that (including our League Champion), I'm at a loss.

Well, there were 500+ comments on your Fantasy Baseball thread...

… and NJNative and I had discussed the idea of setting up Mirabelli League again for 2012, but it looks like Yahoo! isn’t ready for me to simply email out the players.

So I figured I’d do the post to call attention to the idea that I’ll set it up and run it again… pending responses from the players last season, I may end up with an open spot or two.

Though, after finishing second in Mirabelli League for 2011, I’d really like a shot at you, champ!

I thought we’d never win it all. And then we went down 0-3 to the Yankees in 2004, and I thought it was the end of the world.

Wait ’til THIS year!

HA HA HA!

Somehow, I don’t think he’ll be flattered by that…

I thought we’d never win it all. And then we went down 0-3 to the Yankees in 2004, and I thought it was the end of the world.

Out of left field, one year wonder?

I thought we’d never win it all. And then we went down 0-3 to the Yankees in 2004, and I thought it was the end of the world.

Yup

Career year.

I didn’t think of the out of left field thing, very snazzy.

by Sologub on Jan 28, 2012 12:54 PM EST up reply actions

Thanks!

I had a little fun with that, especially since OOLF is a poster here too.

I thought we’d never win it all. And then we went down 0-3 to the Yankees in 2004, and I thought it was the end of the world.

Well, I was pretty sure.

9th place...

So that’s why I barely remember this…

by revived0103 on Jan 27, 2012 11:07 PM EST reply actions

I was Donald's Ducks.

I didn’t realize I finished quite as badly as I did. Yikes!

by dsharp on Jan 28, 2012 12:14 AM EST reply actions

Wait a minute. I was in the Varitek League.

Did the name change or are you listing me in the wrong one?

by dsharp on Jan 28, 2012 12:16 AM EST up reply actions

uh oh. I just had a scary thought...

Was I set up in both leagues last year? I was told I only had a team in the Varitek league. It’s the only one I ever looked at. And I don’t recognize any of these other team names. I wouldn’t have used the name Donald’s Ducks in both leagues.

If I did have a team in both leagues and I never even knew this one existed, how the hell did this one not finish in last place?

by dsharp on Jan 28, 2012 1:13 AM EST up reply actions

Well, unless you're totally confused.

I definitely ran Mirabelli League, and Donald’s Ducks was run by an active GM: donwp is the start of the email address, so if that’s your address, it was your team.

The team finished the season with Waiver Priority #1, but made 18 transactions and three trades. Considering no other team made more than one trade, it was among the more active trading teams… though, Once Is Enough took the prize on activity with 136 roster moves (guessing “streaming” pitchers to get a playoff spot, but the six seed took him out in the opening round).

So… if that wasn’t your email address, then someone else had the same team name. What say you??

I thought we’d never win it all. And then we went down 0-3 to the Yankees in 2004, and I thought it was the end of the world.

Wait ’til THIS year!

by AlohaSox on Jan 28, 2012 2:51 AM EST up reply actions

OK, that WASN'T my team because that's not my email address and I made no moves here.

Funny that someone else should use the exact same team name that I was using in the Varitek League and that I’ve been using in fantasy sports for the last 10 years, though.

I’ve never seen anyone else use it before now. Weird coincidence.

by dsharp on Jan 28, 2012 11:07 AM EST up reply actions

Well, that explains it.

And is a very funny coincidence!

I thought we’d never win it all. And then we went down 0-3 to the Yankees in 2004, and I thought it was the end of the world.

Wait ’til THIS year!

by AlohaSox on Jan 28, 2012 12:16 PM EST up reply actions

I was Full At Evening

And that was probably the most fun I’ve had in any fantasy baseball league. Granted, it was only my second year playing. Having Braun an Kemp didn’t hurt. Hopefully we can put this back together or at least do something similar.

by Braden Beaudreau on Jan 28, 2012 12:59 AM EST via mobile reply actions

Ha ha ha!

Nicely done… Braun in his steroid year, and the guy that should have won the NL MVP.

Yeah, I’m setting it up as soon as Yahoo! opens up the registration. You’ll get an email asking you to join again this year, and after last year’s players have had a chance, I’ll fill any empty spots.

I thought we’d never win it all. And then we went down 0-3 to the Yankees in 2004, and I thought it was the end of the world.

Hmm... I recall emailing Ben to take over your team in the other league late last season.

Just busting your chops, buddy… we’ll see what happens once I send out the email to the original members from last year.

As far as I can tell, Yahoo! hasn’t even opened registration yet.

It hasn't

Frankly, the reason I dropped out of the Tek league was I couldn’t stand LC, I still can’t.

by TheLoneDavid on Jan 30, 2012 12:50 PM EST up reply actions

Well, I'd look at the set up I ran.

Mirabelli League was much different than the other two… I just copied settings from the league I’ve run for a decade, and engaged all the other managers to tweak that model to one we all agreed to.

I don’t think starting pitching was as valuable in Mirabelli League as it was in the Varitek or… Gedman(?) leagues.

It was, it was nuts.

I went from last to third place before leaving just by streaming starting pitchers.

Yep the rules need to be changed

and it was primarily because Yahoo did not allow start limits for the week. So you could just run in and out pitchers for the points.

Was it because you couldn't stand me,

or because you couldn’t beat me? I seem to remember you leaving after I waxed your team.

Acting like an asshole over your fantasy team… But that’s par for the course for you.

Well

At least you’re finally able to admit why you quit the league(although I loved your excuse). You must have pretty thin skin to leave a fantasy baseball league because someone that beat you talked smack. I hope Aloha has a strict no smack talking policy, if you’re in his league. Wouldn’t want to get TLD upset.

Also, you can call me an asshole all you like. I’m not going to get bent about it, I just consider the source. ;)

Your life must be pretty sad if the highlight of your year is your fantasy team.

Is someone not getting enough love at home? It’s understandable, any person who spent any amount of time with you and still wanted to have sex would have to be mentally deranged.

I’m sorry your life is such shit. Would you like a hug? Not from me of course, I don’t want your shittiness to rub off on me. I know, I’ll get you a teddy bear. It doesn’t hug back, but I’m sure that’s still more physical contact than you’ve had in the past decade or so.

Don’t worry, I’m sure that if there is a god, he’ll decide to put you out of your misery soon. For your sake, I hope it’s sooner rather than later.

I have sent you two emails, but don't see you registered yet.

I think you’re in one of the other leagues, so let me know if you still want into this one.

(Or wait… some of the players in other leagues told me they’ll play if I need them, but will open spots for others if necessary… I’ll have to read the emails again in the morning.)
