An Apology From A Yankees Fan
A little over a year ago, I was fed up with all the hype over Jacoby Ellsbury. He hadn't even been better than Brett Gardner at that point in both their careers, yet Ellsbury was the player constantly being talked about on ESPN and other media outlets. I wrote this fanpost voicing my arguments against him, not to OTM in particular, but more of as a post towards Red Sox fans in general.
Well, I was wrong. Ellsbury really emerged this year as a star. I will admit, I didn't see it coming. The power outburst from him was incredible. His ISO went from .114 in 2008 and 2009 (we'll omit his injury shortened 2010) to .230 this year. Better yet, he wasn't aided by unnaturally high BABIP or HR/FB rates, so this might be the real deal.
I know your season didn't exactly end as you would have liked it, but at the very least I think you have something to look forward to with Ellsbury. See you next year.

NObody saw that power output coming
HIs emergence this year was DEFINITELY a bright spot to this season.
To be fair, I don't think anyone here saw that kind of season coming.
However, I also though Brett Gardner would never be better than a fourth outfielder/defensive replacement type. I was quite wrong.
Go Sox
Not sure who you're going to get to replace his production
He made $2.4m this year and will probably earn $6-$7m after arbitration next year. Even if his power drops off a bit, you’re still getting great value.

Yeah, but when you can turn that into 3 or 4 players who present great value...
It’s tough. It’s tough to trade your MVP, and possibly the AL MVP, but it may make some sense.

Or into Felix Hernandez!
I’m telling you, there has got to be a way to convince them that they won’t compete during the duration of the King’s contract that they should kindly swap him for our cheaper CF and a couple other OF prospects. The CF is from the Pacific Northwest and the fans would love him just as much.

They can give him that extension
The one I’d be very hesitant to give him right now. It would likely be much cheaper than Hernandez’s.

but if they're not going to be competitive until after 2014
and they really want him, why not just wait till he hits free agency? After switching to Boras as a major league player, he’s almost certainly going to want to hit the market.
We just need to tell them that their situation is hopeless and they need to give us Felix.
Quit poking holes in this, we have the Jedi to get this done!

Felix has a no-trade clause, and he supposedly won’t waive it because he wants to stay in Seattle.

But we have the Jedi...
Why do people keep overlooking that?

But you'd need to have the value now, not prospects
You’d need a blockbuster package—such as for a Felix Hernandez, as Rogue suggests. You can’t trade for prospects at this stage. It has to be proven talent for proven talent—and at a net gain for the Sox. A starter only pitches thirty or so games. You’d need more than that in return.

With the title you gave, I thought you would be apologizing for
not trying to win against the Rays, so I was somewhat disappointed.

To be honest, a lot of us were surprised that Girardi put out the starting position players for that game. We had nothing to play for, and I would have rather he not risk injuries. You should have seen the guys on DRaysBay cursing Girardi out for putting in the A-team. You can’t blame him for not using our top pitchers, we need to keep them fresh for the playoffs.

Classy
Thanks for being nice about it. I’ll have to take back some of the nasty things I’ve said about all Yankees fans now.
