Isnt a Range Rover an "All Terrain Vehicle?"
Why would rain be harmful?
People in NY are classic, hilarious. I would expect this type of foolishness from someone in Beverly Hills.
Not really
it’s bought by shithead urbanites who don’t mind getting 10 mpg for a completely impractical vehicle.
Got to agree with you.
Not to say that all people with gas hogs are bad people (I know some very nice people with gas hogs), but I’ve noticed that a far higher percentage of people that I don’t like drive gas hogs than reasonable vehicles.

I respect my parents greatly,
but they each have (relatively) smallish SUVs and it bugs the crap out of me. Dad’s an architect so that at least makes sense, but 99% of people with SUVs have absolutely no reason to do so, and are just wasting precious resources. And also drive like total assholes.
Yep. couldn't agree more
Same for people with trucks. Of all the people in my neighborhood, I’d day only two people “earn” their truck. The rest of them just have it to look cool. Except I think they’re all inconsiderate for wasting CO2 to look cool.

I dislike prius drivers for that
Although if you’re willing to go left lane speeds, then whatever. I’ve just spent more time than I like stuck behind priuses who felt like 65 was enough to buy them a ticket to the left lane.
That said,
I used to drive a Civic Hybrid and I’m generally in favor of hybrids, and priuses who don’t try to pretend they have acceleration are totally fine by me.
65 is a good speed.
that’s what we cruise at on long distance trips in our V70.

65 is a fine speed
But it’s not left lane speed, even in a 55. I have nothing against people who go 65 on the highway, but if you do that, then you shouldn’t be in the fast people lane.
Double post
Didn’t mean to put this here….it was in reply to an earlier string.
Anyway, why drive in the left lane unless you want to maintain the appropriate speed?
We’re gonna take over., anyway
….might as well relax and learn to love the MPG game :<P
I think part of the problem
Is that they have the instant MPG thing on the dash and that makes people drive like bitches as they try to maximize it.
But thats bad technique
You should accelerate briskly with the Prius.
Driving like Grandma doesn’t work
I gotta say, I'm a gigantic leftists,
and I hate the Prius to death. I don’t really understand why it should cost 8-10k more for a meager 5-10 mpg improvement over, say, a Fiat 500 which is SO much more fun to drive.
Prius is HUGE fun
I’m getting 70
and its FUN.
I love my son’s Scion, and I understand you completely, but don’t hate what you don’t know
my one up-close experience with a prius
was the woman who slammed into us when she wasn’t paying attention. Confirmed everything I expected, sadly.
Hybrids aren’t a solution, they’re an intermediary step.
Well, of course
It’s a hybrid—it’s an awkward marriage of fundamentally incompatible technologies that yield improvement, not a magic bullet.
Fenway: "An alternate and better universe, disguised as a ballpark." --Thomas Boswell
I question whether the benefits of the hybrid
outweigh the noxious disposal process for current-day batteries.
Total disinformation
That has been utterly debunked.

In all seriousness,
I am looking into something better on gas than what I have now. I tend to work from home a bit to combat the gas expense. I don’t like the look of the Prius or the Smart car ( which I thought was Snort the first time I saw it)
"Baseball is almost the only orderly thing in a very unorderly world. If you get three strikes, even the best lawyer in the world can't get you off."

Fiat 500!
I’m dying for either a 500 Abarth or a Mini Cooper S. Something that would be fun to flog around the twisty roads around Boston.
The Mini Cooper is cool
But it’s too small for me—literally. I sat down in one, and my head hit the roof, with no clearance.
Fenway: "An alternate and better universe, disguised as a ballpark." --Thomas Boswell
The Smart is totally stupid
only gets 40. My family used to have a 96 Ford Escort wagon, got 34-36 city/38-41 highway. The key with that car was the 5-speed, though. Automatics only get 30/35 best case.

Try a Prius
before deciding it sucks because of the chorus of haters
Its a damn good car, and anyone can get 50 without even trying. It pays for itself, and its FUN
It accelerates fine, too
Electric is good at torque, which is what you need.
it pays for itself? Seriously?
From what calculations I’ve done, it is literally impossible to pay off a Prius.
That's why we buy used cars

I used under 1,000 gallons
in my first 60k.
At 3 bucks a gallon, I’ve saved $6k already in 2 years over a 20 MPG thingy?
The thing cost me 23k new.
What good midsize can you get for 17k new?
Well, for one, I hate midsize to death
I have an inherited Malibu now, and it’s shite. Way too big.
From what I had seen when I was pricing it out a few years ago, the Prius was getting about 50 mpg, while the Mini was getting 40. And the difference is, the Mini is fun to drive.
the bottom line is
the Prius, to me, is so noxious because it’s a car for people who hate cars. I love cars, but I want to find something that isn’t like driving a minivan, and doesn’t destroy the earth.
Afaic, the Prius destroys fun.
That's just silly
I like cars fine.
I even like “vroom vroom”…….I drive the Scion (5 speed manual) whenever I can.
But I love squeezing extra MPG in my commute, and I’m good at it.
I don’t drve slowly when others are around (I come in early)
What the hell is wrong with that?
Nothing at all
But I would wager that the massive, overwhelming majority of Prius owners wish they never had to touch a car again. As there is no way to derive enjoyment from its experience.
OK, thats what you think
I’m not trying to sell it to you – you hate it way too much to start with, which is something I just don’t understand.
If you tried driving it, it might surprise you very much
But I have never had as much fun driving in the past 25 years as I do now with the Prius.
Not even close.
Different strokes, I guess.
I can't believe anything that giant can be any fun
But, who knows, at least it’s not a fucking SUV or Minivan.
But you don't actually know, do you?
I admit you might not have enough OCD in you to enjoy the Prus as I do, but I’m not kidding you.
Would this be any better?

The Yanks schedule in September may be a differentiator.
They’ve got an 11 game road trip now, since one of today’s games was rescheduled for their off day on Sept 8. They are scheduled to play 2 tomorrow, if they only get one in, presumably they play two on Monday. If they get none, they’ll play on Sept 15, their only remaining off date in September. And, oh yeah, they still have to pick the day in the mid September TB series where they will play 2. It could be a DH the day before the final Boston series.
Anyone else have DirecTV Extra Innings?
If so, is this game on there and if so, what channel?

4 straight pitches, dead center in the strike zone, 3 called for balls in this at bat alone
He's not hitting the zone with any consistency.

What is it with Bedard and the umps, anyway
Do they suspect him of driving a Prius, or something?
Well, this might just be a matter of not getting credit given his control.
But then again, it’s hard to blame him for not having control when the ball is dipped in water before every pitch.

No, no one has mentioned moving 700 miles to the south yet tonight.
So you are A-OK!
NBA Officiating - Corrupt? Incompetent? Which is worse? Does it matter? It sucks.
Oops… I meant… someone mentioning the fact that the Sox game is free right now! haha… going insane from camping out in my room all day cause of the hurricane! haha
OK! But have the Sox ever opened the gates like that before? I know that you used to be able to go in the 8th inning and watch the end of the game for free, but I think they stopped that?! Not sure though…
Yeah. When I was younger I wanted to go in the 8th inning just so I could go to Fenway and I thought it was awesome that it was free… even if it was 1.5 or 2 innings. Yup, I’ve been obsessed with baseball for a long time.
Along those lines and sorta OT… but right before I moved I got the “B” logo tattooed onto my foot! haha
Sweet!!! It hurt and it’s still healing, but I’m glad that I did it. What I do for my teams! The upper arm would be awesome too, but I’m a girl, so that would look weird and I wanted it to be small.
Well, I've already got a few tattoos
But foot tattoos are very good on girls in general, and there ain’t nothing wrong with sports teams. The healing process is pretty quick if you take good care of the tattoo properly.
Yeah, I’m trying to take good care of it… lots of socks and sneakers which is hard when its 90 degrees out. I don’t know if I’m going to get another one/I don’t know what I would get, but I love my “B” and can’t wait to wear sandals.
How recently did you get it?
I’m looking forward to getting my B, although I haven’t decided which arm I want it on.
It’s on my right foot, and I would probably get it on my right arm, but that’s cause I’m a lefty so then I can look at it! haha
Oh wow, that’s pretty recent, sounds like a fun time! I would generally think right arm for me because it’s my dominant one, but I already have a tattoo on the inner arm on that one, and while they wouldn’t clash, they also wouldn’t look good together. Plus, my left side is uninked and that feels unbalanced.
Yeahh…. it’s been a whirlwind but the Sox have kept me sane! I would go left side cause then it will balance it out.
Hah. Sanity is not usually the result I get from watching the Sox, but there you have it. The one thing about putting it on my left arm would be that I’d feel weird about putting the sox on my weaker arm.
Well the games give me at least one constant in my life… except for tomorrow which will be weird. I completely understand that reasoning about your left arm, which is why I’m surprised that I got my tattoo on my right foot cause it’s my weak side.
I can see that, these next few days are going to be weird then. But then we play the yankees, who won’t have had two days off. It’ll be fun!
Oh yes!! I’m missing the first Yankees game cause I’m going to the Durham Bulls game that night… but it will be a fun week :)
Awesome!
Also, these text boxen are getting really small. But have fun at that, I’ll try to make sure the Sox win that one for you anyhow. With all my game influencing powers (I have none)
Better than Lackey

Lackey
is such a tool (not cool) name
Servility sucks
fortunately for J J Putz
his name isn’t pronounced as it seems

LOVE that name!
If it was yours, would YOU pronounce it as it seems?

Better than
Balfour.
And I kinda like Swisher for a Yankees hitter
Sigh ... 'Bad Carl' is back.

End of the inning
I’ll be surprised if they let it go on
Aceves is the BEST
multi innings whenever needed, and not a mop
It adds a special
“frisson” when I see him do really well, yes
Wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't accidentally played Deus Ex till 3:30 in the morning.

I had no idea what time it was, so I count that as an accident.
I’d been planning to fall asleep at 1 or 2 so I could wake up at 9.

THIS
I guess when there’s no wind when you start to sail to the launching ramp, and you have to have one person row in the 2,000 lb 25 ft boat while you get in the dinghy and tow the boat for the first 3/4 mile, and then have to row the dinghy 1.2 miles from the ramp back to the town dock where it lives for the summer, that is to be expected…….

Another fun fact about today… the CNN weather guy was wearing a Sox hat while talking about the hurricane and New England.
That's even better than when
Brian Williams told some guy wearing a Yankees cap who was doing a report in Times Square
Great taste in baseball caps

So Bedard pitches 4.0 shut-out innings
and will not qualify for the win.
Aceves has pitched 3 shut-out innings so far. Is in good position to be awarded the win.
Who will get his first? Bedard’s first win as a Red Sox or Wake’s 200th?

How do I answer the question of what has been going on with me this year? I’m still trying to figure that out. I went through a lot. There was a lot of change, but I don’t like to make excuses. Only thing I can really say is I’m having a bad year for whatever reason that might be. I really can’t just put my finger on one thing and say that’s the reason why. All I can say is for some reason, I’m having a bad year.
