Game 129: One Last Injury Game?
Boston Red Sox at Texas Rangers, Aug 22, 2011 8:05 PM EDT
Ellsbury and Ortiz may be back tomorrow, but for tonight, at least, it's going to be McDonald and Lavarnway instead of the two All-Stars.
Or, rather, Reddick and Lavarnway, since with a lefty on the mound, chances are McDonald would be in the starting nine anyways.
Unfortunately, because of this our lineup doesn't really stand up to the Rangers' nearly as well as it would on a normal day.
Hopefully Erik Bedard will finally have an uneventful start--some good offense, no shoddy defense, and a reasonable strike zone from the home plate umpire.
C.J. Wilson...well, he's pretty good. And a lefty. That's about all that really needs to be said for him tonight.
Go Sox!

why?
We’re playing them missing three key players and we played them during the worst slump of the season. We might lose to Texas in the playoffs, but I wouldn’t rather play NYY instead of them.

We have barely beaten them the last few seasons.
I would much rather face the Yankees than Texas. They just seem to have our number. No matter what the circumstances, Texas always seems to beat us.
Bedard-Wilson won't even happen in the playoffs
Half of the lineups that Texas or Boston created during those games won’t happen in the playoffs. Texas is a good team, but Im not sure how indicative these games are.

I would. I don't see any difference in talent between NYY and Texas
And I think this whole media-created rivalry gets the best Sox perfomance against the Yanks.
My dad taught me, “Never get in a fist fight if the other guy is more pissed off than you are.”
Texas is more pissed off than Boston when they match up.
that is quite funny
they need to rename DRays Bay to this

They picked up Uehera and Adams at the deadline
both top of the line bullpen arms to go with their closer Feliz.
So, yeah, good.
They have the 4th highest ERA in the AL
They have the 2nd highest FIP, and are middle of the pack in xFIP
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

It is impressive. You have no idea how long it takes me to find stats and even longer to interpret them.

Has it improved this month?
I know their bullpen was a dumpster fire leading up to the deadline. I thought it had to have improved.
I don't either
does Nolan Ryan still pitch for them?

They got Mike Adams from SD who is pretty good. Feliz is struggling last time I heard.

what commercial?

oh sorry
the dunkin donuts commercial. the one where she doesn’t say what kind of dunkin donuts she likes & just pretends to act all cute
I never noticed her
most commercials bug me so I mute or fast forward

in that commercial?
have you seen her in it? she’s so phony & full of it. (i am also a girl, but maybe if i were a guy i’d think it’s cute)
I guess i just don't see it, i think she's kind of creepy looking
and at least for me, being an idiot is always a turnoff when it comes to a guy

I agree, dumb men are def not the move
I don’t care how good looking or whatever other talents. Stupidity is a turn off and willful ignorance is just as bad.

Tek joke, even worse.
Nick Green, at least, is a pretty handsome dude.

This probably isn't rational, but
I’m not happy with Ellsbury and his 88mph bruise right now.
Would you rather it turn into a nagging issue to our 2nd/3rd best player for the playoffs?

Seriously. In the back. 88 mph.
You do realize that 88 mph is still pretty friggin' fast

not at all
but i do wonder what his lifetime august record is with the red sox.
Im sitting here thinking they seem to collapse every august
OTM's biggest Clutch Carl fan.
Including this year
The Sox are 124-95 (.566) in August under Tito. That’s a 92-win pace. Those numbers includes 2006, when a crippled Sox team was 9-21 in August.

Going back to 2004 (records in August)
2004: 21-7
2005: 18-9
2006: 9-21
2007: 16-13
2008: 18-9
2009: 16-12
2010: 15:13
So not horrible. But they do tend to have one summer month a year (June-August) where they do struggle. August seems to be the month in 2011.
Think injuries might have something to do with that?

Tito bashing

See, I like Lackey.
I don’t like Papelbon, or at least today, Ellsbury.
Like how Sean doesn't like Beckett for personal reasons...
Pap strikes me as a guy I would not want to be anywhere near in person.
by all accounts he's one of the funniest guys in the clubhouse
perhaps its the (over?) competitiveness?
Paps seems like an arse
Ells seems like he has a chip. Drew seems cool though. I think Papi and Pedroia are annoying ( don’t ban me Ben)
"Baseball is almost the only orderly thing in a very unorderly world. If you get three strikes, even the best lawyer in the world can't get you off."
~Bill Veeck~
I think I would like Bard, Lester and Pedroia the most
Youk may be a little bit intense, Gonzo a bit too laid back. Lowrie strikes me as someone with interesting points of view.
I think Papi would be awesome.
Of course Pedroia is a dick. In the same way that Rondo is: players you love to have on your team, who everyone else hates because they’re wangs.
Pedey would get annoying after loses
but great after wins.
and McDonald strikes me as someone who is
too cool for school, he really needs to check his stats but I don’t know any of them ,just basing it on the interviews I have seen.
Samatha’s link make me think of this: Something about the Tito/Pedroia relationship bugs me too. There was a time I found it endearing, now it is annoying when Tito mentions playing cribbage with Pedroia.
"Baseball is almost the only orderly thing in a very unorderly world. If you get three strikes, even the best lawyer in the world can't get you off."
~Bill Veeck~
Papi and Pedey seem like the two coolest guys on the team to me
Papi is always cracking jokes, Pedey seems like he’d just be one of those pest types during games
I have no issue with Lackey
I am looking forward to his start tomorrow, no sarcasm tags needed

The Rangers are right up there with NYY and TB
on the list of teams I despise.
I only rooted for them against the Yankees.
And I will root for them when they play TB this year. But outside of that I really hate that team.
Good Night All!
I really wish Crawford didn’t make the last out of the game. Lackey will right things tomorrow.
