Miller is pitching
So if ever there was a time to roll out a weak lineup, this would be it.

Any lineup
that has Aviles hitting second should be truly feared.
Who would you have hitting second?
There really isn’t much choice.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

I'll answer...
Absolutely any other hitter on the 25 man roster.

Really?
Since May 1st, Jed Lowrie is the worst hitter on the team (.208/.266/.308), McDonald isn’t much better. Crawford can’t hit lefties, and Salty has power but a low OBP (.316). They aren’t going to hit Lavarnway second. Since Ellsbury, Pedroia, and Gonzalez have set spots in the order, there isn’t much choice.

To be fair, Lowrie was also playing injured or on the DL for much of that time.
But what about Reddick?

Swap out McDonald for Reddick
Put Aviles in the 9-spot.

Aviles has about a .344 career wOBA vs LHP.
He’s done it over a longer time, which makes him a bit more reliable than Mcdonald. And I think it’s be a little insane to bat Aviles 9th, seeing how Crawford of all people, would be batting ahead of him.
I guess people are forgetting we’re facing a LHP because I don’t see the big deal. Aviles isn’t good against LHP, but he isn’t bad. Where else is he supposed to go? If Pedroia goes at #2, then Lowrie, Lavarnway, or Aviles has to hit cleanup.

yeah
I think it’s fine considering the players available.
I’d rather have Lowrie, considering his career .406 wOBA against lefties, but then he hasn’t been hitting anything well lately so that pressure may not help him. That dude needs to just run into a home run more than about anyone else I’ve ever seen to get his confidence back and hopefully bring his patience with it.
On the positive side, the team this lineup will be facing is Jeff Francis and the Royals.
He ran into a HR, left-handed nonetheless, in Minney
and still blows.
I was more cursing the heavans
than suggesting an alternative.
How about Salty?

Well
Aviles, Pedroia, Lavarnway, Lowrie could all potentially kill Francis, who has HUGE splits.

Let's trade Reddick for Heyward!

Except I have much more confidence in this year's bullpen

McDonald
has hit .277/.344/.443 against LHP in 266 career ABs. That’s really pretty good.
Of course, you don’t wanna see his numbers against righties. But I have no problem seeing him in there against a lefty.

I'd look at his stats this year before his career.
