Red Sox Trade Mike Cameron To Florida Marlins

PITTSBURGH - JUNE 24: Mike Cameron #23 of the Boston Red Sox misplays a ball in the outfield against the Pittsburgh Pirates during the game on June 24, 2011 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Jared Wickerham/Getty Images)

Per Jon Morosi, the Red Sox have traded Mike Cameron to the Florida Marlins for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Quite frankly, receiving anything more than the prorated league minimum salary for the second half of the season is a win for the Red Sox. Cameron had been dismal with the team, providing a -0.8 WAR on the back of a .216 wOBA and at times embarrassing defense.

It's pretty clear that, really, the Marlins are going to come out of this deal with more money than the Red Sox, as it would be entirely surprising if Florida had agreed to pay more than a portion of Cameron's remaining contract. We'll just have to wait for details to emerge to see just how much they took off of our hands.

Please, give us another steal, similar to the deal for Andrew Miller

I want Mike Stanton

The Red Sox suck, and I am the dirt that was sucked in, I am a dirty.

I predict that it wont be, once the financials are revealed

I’m sure the ‘Sox are still going to eat most of Cam’s salary.

I am sad that Cameron didn’t work out as a Red Sox. He was always a fun player to watch and should have been a decent ‘bridge’ fit for us. Oh well, sometimes good ideas just don’t work out. Injuries have been the foil of many a sound plan and will be again.

Good luck, Cam!

IAWTC

Had high hopes for Cam and I don’t disagree with the decision to sign him, even if it didn’t work out. Hope he can make some good in Florida.

Good to see a lot of the regulars in here, wishing him well.

Sad to see his performance with the Sox… like others, I really thought he was going to be a great fit for us last year, and I was hoping he’d recover this year.

Unfortunately it didn’t work out for the Sox, but I still think he was a good player, solid professional and from all reports, a good guy.

Best of luck with the Marlins!

The report is that the Marlins are paying less than $200k

so presumably, they’re taking on the prorated minimum.

It is obvious

This Mike Stanton guy isn’t working out for them and they should trade him to us.
