Moves the Red Sox Should Make
The trade deadline is tomorrow, and the Boston Red Sox have some moves to make. Let's take a look at some needs and resolutions.
Clay Buchholz is out and it looks like he won't be back anytime soon. John Lackey has been pitching well of late, but can he be trusted in the post season?
One team that does not have to worry is the Seattle Mariners, as they won't even sniff the post season. So why not trade Lackey to Seattle? They can have him for three more years too! In return the Red Sox can get Felix Hernandez for the playoffs. And they need a right fielder too, so how about Ichiro? They can give up JD Drew so that they can have a right fielder to replace Ichiro in Seattle.
Then they could use a shortstop. Jed Lowrie is hurt too much. And Scutaro sucks, so I hate him. And I hate him cause he sucks. Makes sense, right? So how about we trade for Albert Pujols and put him at shortstop? I mean, he's a great athlete, he should be able to play shortstop! Then the Red Sox can give them Yamaico Navarro and Drew Sutton to make up for it! Genius!
Then, then, then... how about trading for Heath Bell? They can give up Dan Wheeler and Bobby Jenks to take his place in San Diego. I mean, the Padres suck, they don't need him. And we all know that Jed Hoyer is in consparicy to help the Red Sox, that's why they got Gonzalez.
They need to make me GM of this team.

I thought they made sense!
After all, all the teams are here to support the Red Sox and Yankees.

my only real problem is
sure, we all know Pujols will be a great shortstop, but I don’t like the idea of giving up someone as valuable as Sutton for a rental. Let’s make that trade contingent on him signing a 10 year $5 extension.
Whoa, that's waaaay overpaying him!
He has only 2,000 hits in his career!

Pujols at SS
I understand this proposal but…
A good buddy of mine told me at while at one of his visits while being recruited he was brought in for a game and Pujols was playing SS.
~ ROLL TIDE ~
GO SOX!!
Pujols was a SS before coming to the pros
but he can’t physically do it anymore.

Haha the point wasn’t to bait him. The point was to be funny. This was posted on my personal baseball blog too.

Yeah, that's just not going to work
I mean, Pujols at short? Please! The only way that doesn’t guarantee the Sox lose every game for the rest of the season is if you also realize the Yankees would be willing to trade Derek Jeter’s intangibles for the jersey of a lefthanded hitting low-level outfielder. Make that trade too and it’s just crazy enough to work.
the post was sarcastic

Disappointing
there are other teams that could give us players because we are the Red Sox.
Hanley Rameriz clearly could be acquired from the Marlins for a couple of prospects.
And the Dodgers are giving up – so how about Clayton Kershaw for, say, Josh Reddick.
I wouldn't do Kershaw for Reddick.
Kershaw for Iglesias, they traded Furcal, so they need a SS.

Then why not give up Aviles? He can play short!,

Because Iglesias sucks. Theo traded for Aviles, so that means he's awesome!

nice fantasy..
however any team that will take Lackey will demand salary relief, the only team that is willing to take Lackey and his salary if the Sox take their starting pitcher with a bigger salary and a worse contract is the Giants and Barry Zito.
King Felix is someone you build your team around, and the Mariners are still a couple years away from being in contention, but like the Giants pre 2010, they are getting some good starting pitching. They need hitting and probably a good strong hitter and left fielder. It would be idiotic for the Mariners to give up King Felix for a so-so to mediocre Starting pitcher, besides, the Sox won’t getting "King Felix" they would be getting a lesser version, given his numbers will go up even more pitching at Fenway..
If the 2011 season is already a lost for most teams, one doesn’t have a fire sale, but do nuance trades, look at weaknesses in the 2011 season and try to buy low, instead of looking for a blockbuster trade. Think of the Tampa Bay/Minnesota trade in 2007, that got the Rays, Matt Garza, and the best starting pitching staff for 2008, instead of the one that got more press at the time, the Marlin/Tiger trade of Dontelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera for a bunch of Tiger prospects..
I think like Plastic Surgeons, Baseball GMs make their reputation by turning down the trades that may play well at WEEI or in the media, and make their money by doing the mundane trades of up and coming prospects..
You put me in my place!
