It's about time
It just wasn’t working out at all.
It’s a shame too since he had a really good career and I thought he was going to be a good contributor to the Sox. Age and injuries caught up with him.
Now McDonald needs to go next.

Well, with Cameron gone...
Reddick gets more playing time, and McDonald presumably becomes the fifth outfielder. If Kalish were healthy, I would say dump them both, but he’s not.

Dump who both?
Reddick can stay for now, thank you very much.

Thanks for the memories
Sorry it didn’t work out with Cameron. Glad to see the Red Sox brass becoming pro-active.

Yeah I hope this means that Reddick starts
Drew becomes the fourth OFer and McD is next on the chopping block. I’d rather bring up Navarro when he’s ready or let Sutton be super-sub. Do we really need a fifth OFer? Especially when we leave the NL.

I doubt that Reddick would get a lot of starts over Drew if CC, Ells, Drew and Reddick are healthy
Francona just made some quote in a conversation about Reddick about not abandoning your guys for the flavor of the week, seemed like a warning to fans/media about not overhyping Reddick. I think it was more in a conversation about him playing Dmac or Cam over Reddick, but I think Drew has even more of a leash with Francona. I do think Josh will get more starts now and be the fourth OF’er and get maybe 1-2 a week from Drew, and maybe one from either CC or Els a week.
Either way good news for the kid. It tells me that he will pretty much be up at the MLB level for the rest of the year unless they have somebody on the trade horizon they’re looking at.

Always seemed like a really, really nice guy
And I really thought he would work out for us to some extent. But alas, injuries and age have caught up to him this year.

Huzzah!
I hate to start dancing on the grave of the man’s career, but, wow, it was time. Past time. Enjoy retirement, Mike.

This is the way I feel.
Very happy to see him DFA’d, but sad to see a great professional reach the end of his career. He was, however, killing us whenever he was in the line up, so he really, really needed to go. And Terry kept playing him, so the FO needed to remove him from the equation, which will hopefully give that playing time to Reddick, with McDonald serving as the back up from here on out (until Crawford’s back, obviously).
As for discussions of Reddick sticking out the rest of the season, I’m sure Drew has a long leash, but at some point, if Reddick keeps producing and Drew continues to fade, I think we’ll see a similar situation to Lowrie/Scutaro early in the season, where Reddick forces the issue.
Yay!
