Granted, Bowden hasn't been killing it in the majors yet
But we know what Scott Atchison is. I would like to see what Bowden is capable of before trade deadline time.

+1
I’d like to see him stick with the team just to see if he can build any trade value leading up to the deadline. I don’t see him as a centerpiece of any signifcant deal but if he can show something before Jenks return, maybe he could make the difference as a 2nd or 3rd man in a swap. I’m not opposed to bringing up Atchison but I don’t get it unless they need him as an emergency starter.

No sigh here
Atchinson wasn’t too bad in his time here, his peripherals in his 13 innings were decent, he isn’t great but he isn’t likely to fall off a cliff either. Bowden on the other hand has continued to underwhelm, in his 7 innings he walked more than he K’ed and was buoyed by a great strand rate.

The key phrase there, though, is "in his 7 innings"
Atchison is a guy who throws strikes, but has poor stuff, and therefore suffers because of it. Bowden, well, we aren’t entirely sure what he can be in the majors yet. They are fighting over mop up duty, let Bowden see if he’s better than that.

Basically
I’m not Bowden’s biggest fan or anything, but Scott Atchison makes me sad face.

I'm just over Bowden
I know he’s a couple years younger, but I’ve been hearing about him since Clay was getting all the hype and the callups, if he hasn’t shown it yet I just can’t believe he ever will, even as a reliever.
At this point with such damage done to our rotation I think we need to have known quantities in the pen. Bowden is a big unknown, Atch at least is a known evil.

Of course there is no way of knowing what Bowden is without playing him.
It just doesn’t seem to be an appropriate time to be trying him out.

Atch was better than Bowden in both Pawtucket and Boston.
So, the player is better. Now, if you want to argue “prospect” vs “limited veteran,” then fine, but Atch has some advantages too. He’s more experienced.
Emotionally, I’d rather see Atch get a chance to tie up a spot. He probably won’t last past the Jenks call up, but you never know.
I think this makes sense
given the illnesses and injuries and such. Bowden used to be a starter but isn’t anymore and Atch is much more stretched out should we need someone to go a distance. Atchison certainly isn’t someone you’d call a good reliever, but he’s also not that bad. Bowden may have more trade value to other teams if he’s still relatively unknown and doesn’t show what he can do in the majors too extensively.
I like Atchison.
I just like havin’ him on the team. He is what he is.

This is a good move
We know Acthison is solid but not spectacular, Bowden is yet to show himself to be a solid reliever. Atchison is also capable of pitching 3-4 innings at a push which is valuable given the Wake and Aceves currently find themselves in the rotation.
Well
Bowden sucks, Atchison sucks less.
Can’t win either way.
