Do you follow former Red Sox prospects on other teams?

A Saturday morning chat question: Former Red Sox farmhand Anthony Rizzo debuted with the Padres on Thursday night, one of the three prospects dealt for Adrian Gonzalez. Do you follow the careers of Sox prospects after they leave town? Do you root for them? Perhaps wish ill on them to make Boston look smarter? Tell us!

I'm definitely going to follow Rizzo

Last year he showed us he has the potential to be a top tier first baseman. This year he solidified that. I hope he keeps it up and in 6 years we can trade for him.

We don’t have a whole lot out there in terms of former prospects who are successful and worth following, HanRam, Masterson and Anibal Sanchez are the only ones with much star power at the moment it seems.

If they're in the majors and not playing for Boston I'm against them. Period.

Example: Justin Masterson is a decent guy, but he’s been very successful against the Red Sox since going to Cleveland. I’m supposed to cheer for him to do well? Like hell. It has nothing to do with “winning the trade”.

We scored success with Beckett and Lowell for HanRam. So did they. What if we have to face Florida in a WS? Are we supposed to be happy it worked out for Florida, too? No way. (Actually, HanRam has sucked/been injured this year. Thank you, computer, for choosing him #1 for me in my fantasy baseball draft along with the 4 pitchers that were on the DL.)

I root for them.

If our prospects go to other teams and thrive, it makes our organization’s picks look better and increases their trade value going forward. That and I get to “know” some of them and wish well for them personally.

It's a nice thought

but I don’t know if it’s true. I don’t know that a prospect who is pretty visible to scouts all throughout baseball is going to become more valuable to another team just because the prospect came up in the same system as Hanley and Lester.

Occasionally, if they're interesting

Like Craig Hansen, although he spectacularly flamed out

That guy seemed like he was going to be so good for so long then just disappeared. Guess that’s what happens when you go to Pittsburgh.

All depends

If they are good and then traded I am against them, like all the players we traded for Gonzo but if they are never given a chance to succed I will root for them, like Daniel Nava and David Pauley who is doing great with the Mariners

Daniel Nava is still with the Red Sox...

My bad

I didn’t know if he still was when they designated him for assignment

Yeah he passed through waivers and they kept him in Pawtucket.

Speaking from a Yankees fan perspective, I root for all former Yankees prospects that get dealt, unless it’s someone that requested to be dealt like Jason Jones of the Twins.

I pay attention and root for Ian Kennedy, for example.
