You know the drill: Looking at the Top 10 Best & Worst seasons in a Sox uniform by position. Today I'll look at the second sackers over the last 50 years
Top 10 Worst 2B Seasons (by WAR)
| # | Year | Player | WAR | oWAR | dWAR | OPS+ | G/2B |
| 1 | 1964 | Jones, Dalton | -1.7 | -0.6 | -1.1 | 67 | 85 |
| 2 | 1966 | Smith, George | -1.0 | 0.5 | -1.5 | 71 | 109 |
| 3 | 1975 | Griffin, Doug | -0.8 | -0.6 | -0.2 | 53 | 99 |
| 4 | 1976 | Doyle, Denny | -0.6 | 0.0 | -0.6 | 66 | 112 |
| 5 | 1962 | Schilling, Chuck | -0.5 | -1.0 | 0.5 | 63 | 118 |
| 6 | 1977 | Doyle, Denny | -0.4 | -0.9 | 0.5 | 55 | 137 |
| 7 | 1963 | Schilling, Chuck | -0.3 | -0.7 | 0.4 | 69 | 143 |
| 8 | 1973 | Griffin, Doug | -0.2 | 0.1 | -0.3 | 70 | 113 |
| 9 | 1988 | Barrett, Marty | 0.1 | 1.0 | -0.9 | 84 | 148 |
| 10 | 1992 | Reed, Jody | 0.2 | 0.3 | -0.1 | 109 | 142 |
| 10 | 1989 | Barrett, Marty | 0.2 | 0.1 | 0.1 | 76 | 80 |
Comments: I'm personally sad that Barrett makes this list, twice. He was one of my favorite players in the 80s and along with Boggs made for a potentn 1-2 in the lineup, namely because Boggs always got on base and Barret then always got him into scoring position or advanced him because Barrett could bunt like noone else. Lot of 60s/70s guys here, again why play a crappy bat at 2B like Jones/Smith when they are crappy fielders as well? At least the Schilling name was put right with a ceratin pitching acquisition.

| 10 | 1966 | Smith, George | -1.0 | 0.5 | -1.5 | 71 | 109 |
Comments: Look at the name fletcher at #3 and remember it. Lot of pretty putrid batting seasons here to choose from, but again mostly 60s/70s guys.
Top 10 Best 2B Seasons (by WAR)
| # | Year | Player | WAR | oWAR | dWAR | OPS+ | G/2B |
| 1 | 2008 | Pedroia, Dustin | 5.2 | 4.9 | 0.3 | 122 | 157 |
| 2 | 2009 | Pedroia, Dustin | 4.9 | 4.0 | 0.9 | 110 | 154 |
| 3 | 1993 | Fletcher, Scott | 4.4 | 2.3 | 2.1 | 95 | 116 |
| 4 | 2007 | Pedroia, Dustin | 4.3 | 3.4 | 0.9 | 112 | 137 |
| 5 | 1997 | Valentin, John | 4.0 | 3.9 | 0.1 | 124 | 79 |
| 6 | 1968 | Andrews, Mike | 3.9 | 4.5 | -0.6 | 113 | 139 |
| 7 | 2010 | Pedroia, Dustin | 3.8 | 2.7 | 1.1 | 127 | 75 |
| 8 | 2004 | Bellhorn, Mark | 3.5 | 3.1 | 0.4 | 107 | 124 |
| 9 | 1991 | Reed, Jody | 3.2 | 2.7 | 0.5 | 112 | 152 |
| 10 | 1969 | Andrews, Mike | 3.2 | 3.8 | -0.6 | 130 | 120 |
Comments: See the #3 guy? Did not realize that Fletcher as that slick with the glove. Of course the Laser Show makes appearances here, even an injury shortened 2010 seasons comes in at #7. Andrews took advantage of the shorter mound. Bellhorn, nice one year wonder, even if he struck out a ba-zillion times.
Top 10 Best 2B Seaons (by OPS+)
| # | Year | Player | WAR | oWAR | dWAR | OPS+ | G/2B |
| 1 | 1969 | Andrews, Mike | 3.2 | 3.8 | -0.6 | 130 | 120 |
| 2 | 2010 | Pedroia, Dustin | 3.8 | 2.7 | 1.1 | 127 | 75 |
| 3 | 1997 | Valentin, John | 4.0 | 3.9 | 0.1 | 124 | 79 |
| 4 | 2008 | Pedroia, Dustin | 5.2 | 4.9 | 0.3 | 122 | 157 |
| 5 | 1965 | Mantilla, Felix | 0.7 | 2.3 | -1.6 | 119 | 123 |
| 6 | 1968 | Andrews, Mike | 3.9 | 4.5 | -0.6 | 113 | 139 |
| 7 | 1980 | Stapleton, Dave | 2.5 | 1.8 | 0.7 | 113 | 94 |
| 8 | 2007 | Pedroia, Dustin | 4.3 | 3.4 | 0.9 | 112 | 137 |
| 9 | 1991 | Reed, Jody | 3.2 | 2.7 | 0.5 | 112 | 152 |
| 10 | 2009 | Pedroia, Dustin | 4.9 | 4.0 | 0.9 | 110 | 154 |
Comments: Kinda surprised that Pedroia is not #1 here. That 69 combo of Petrocelli/Andrews was something. Valentin makes an appearance here, on the SS list and maybe even the 3B list as well - versatile. Jody Reed shares a birthday with me. Dave Stapleton? Now where have I heard that name before...something about 1986 rings a bell.
