State of the Red Sox Nation

First things first. This is a series I will do once in a while observing different aspects of the Sox team we all love and make comments and place simple, achievable goals for the Red Sox team.

At the moment the Red Sox are 6- em 0-6. They have been out played almost every single game, and haven't displayed offensive spark yet. Some reasons not to worry too much are:

  • This was a Road series. Of course 0-6 is still terrible, but not as terrible as 0-6 at home.
  • 3 of those are against the best AL team – not the Indians, but the Rangers
  • After a poor performance, Jon Lester bounced back beautifully, pitching 7 scoreless innings of 3-hit ball while fanning 9.

Players who have looked good:
Jon Lester in his second start.
Adrian Gonzalez is being the entire Red Sox offense.
David Ortiz seems to be over his April issues

Players who have looked bad:
Pretty much everyone else....

Goals:
Heading into the Yanks - Sawks series, Francona – or anyone in there that has the balls to speak up – must inspire the team to man-up and play good baseball.

  1. Win the Home opener. This is CRUCIAL if the Red Sox want to stay confident. If the Yanks take the first one, the series will go downhill, happened in the Rangers series.
  2. Allow no more than 6 runs in each game against the Yankees. The way the offense is going (not scoring more than 5 runs yet) if the game goes high-scoring, the Sox won't catchup.
  3. Score double digits in one home game this home stand. They need that oomph in order to get the ball rolling.

Words of Wisdom (sort of):
In a big early deficit in a baseball game, you dont come back with solo-shots. You need to work as a team and chip-away little by little. Thats what the Sox need to do now that they are in a 0-6 hole.

Go Sox!

P.S.
Please let me know if you like this post and if you would like for me to continue making these throughout the year.

One of the goals

is to not allow more than SIX RUNS per game? Did I read that properly? Let me go back and check. I did. Dude, we should not be setting six runs/game as a goal.

But, yes. We need Game One. Badly.

If we can keep the yanks below 6 runs the game is in our range.

Basically its not to let the Rangers series happen all over again. If we loose, let it be the Indians way.

Why? You think its too high? too low?

I think it's a nice idea, truthfully.

Could be a nice feature to do either monthly, or after every roadtrip/homestand or something. The REPLY FAIL was my fail, not yours, just to clarify.

Oh ok i thought it was on me.

But yeah I think I’ll do it on homestands or road trips that kind of deserve in a sense to be addressed, if you know can understand what I’m trying to express. This road stand was really panicing so I figured it was good to kind of remind everyone it was just 6 road games out of the 81 we play. If a road trip or homestand is not really that important I wont make one.
Thanks for clearing that up btw, I was already getting a feeling of fail on my part. :-)

Not at all, m'man.

Actually, usually when I reply-fail, I put a link to the actual reply I meant to put in the thread, but I didn’t this time because there weren’t a lot of comments yet and, well, because I was feeling lazy.

I’ve learned a lesson today…. :)

Dude, we should NOT be looking at giving up 6 runs

and being confident about ourselves.

Home/Road

Lost somewhat in this fiasco is the fact that these were road games and we typically play pretty average on the road. We have all 81 of our home games left where we tend to play pretty darn good. Lets say we play 0.675 at home this year (we’ve been upwards of 0.690 in typical “good” non-injured seasons) and lets say we play 0.520 on the road the rest of the way (about our average over the past 5 year)

0.675 (81) = 55 Wins
0.520 (75) = 39 Wins

That’s 94 Wins with a home WP less than it was in both 09 and 08 (0.691 both years)

Using 2009/2008 Percentages: 94 Wins
0.691 (81) = 56 Wins
0.481 (75) = 38 Wins

Using 2007 Percentages: 93 Wins
0.630 (81) = 51 Wins
0.556 (75) = 42 Wins

I think there is absolutely no oncern

as long as they get off their asses and play some real baseball. That starts this afternoon.
