This weekend I visited Boston, expecting to be taunted, pushed around, and possibly hit on the head with a chair, or something like that, for wearing my Yankees gear.
I expected to see almost all red as I walked around the city.
Instead, it was what I didn't see that amazed me.Last year when I visited Boston for Easter it was opening night of the baseball season. I could not take the amount of red I saw that day. I wore my Brett Gardner Yankees t-shirt and heard the usual "Yankees suck" "Go back to New York" "Nice shirt, does it come in mens?" type of comments.
This year I saw one person wearing anything Red Sox related. One. Even worse, it was a jersey of a player who is not even on the Red Sox anymore! Why anyone still has the jersey both amazes and confuses me.
I assume the main difference between the two years is that last year it was opening day, and this year the Red Sox were in Los Angeles, but still, if you go to New York you will see tons of Yankees clothing anywhere.
This year I was able to roam around Boston wearing a Mark Teixeira jersey without being heckled, or anything!
Step it up, Boston!
I probably won't be back next year, but I will be back eventually, and I will be very surprised if I don't see more Red Sox clothing then. This post was written out of utter shock from the trip, and please forgive me for any spelling errors, as I am working on four hours of sleep, and I am a Yankees fan. Have a good day.
