I read on mlb.com a Red Sox fan pleading to give Carl Crawford a chance. This fan also pointed out David Ortiz has had some dreadful Aprils (although Papi probably gets a discount with fans because he helped bring home two World Series trophies).
So, I looked it up. The guy has a point. April is NOT (generally) Crawford's month. August is. Have a look after the jump...
Carl Crawford batting averages in months beginning with the letter "A".
APRIL AUGUST
2011 .137 ???
2010 .337 .245
2009 .283 .293
2008 .289 .304
2007 .270 .388
2006 .269 .327
2005 .262 .318
2004 .329 .252
2003 .254 .301
Clearly, THIS April is MUCH worse than Crawford's usual less-than-stellar Aprils past...but in just two seasons out of nine (since becoming an everyday starter) has Boston's new left fielder had what anybody would call a HOT START. In fact, this April is nearly HALF of Crawford previous worse April...batting average-wise.
