And we still signed Crawford, but then re-signed Beltre to a 3 or 4 year deal. Would that have been a better lineup(and team) for THIS YEAR (just this year, based on fit, JUST THIS YEAR)?
I can't express enough how happy I am to have Gonzalez, and its a crazy question to ask, seeing as to how blessed we are to have Gonzalez and Crawford these next 7 + years in the prime of their careers (especially once Drew and Ortiz are gone and replaced with righty or switch hitters).
The reason I'm asking this question is because I always hear talk of how Jayson Werth would've fit better than Carl Crawford (and for THIS YEAR I definitely agree with that, heck I might agree with it for the longrun too considering he could've batted 4th behind Gonzalez and his swing and power as a righty is tailor-made for Fenway, Youk as a 6hitter is just ridiculous), so I just wanted to play devil's advocate and pose the same question for the other lefthanded hitting allstar we picked up over the summer.
What do you guys think? Would Ells-Pedroia-Ortiz-Beltre-Crawford-Youk-Drew-catcher(tek or salt)-shortstop(lowrie or scut) have been a better fit FOR THIS YEAR? Would it have made our team better or been a more productive offensive lineup? It is without a doubt a potent and unbelievable lineup (as is the one we have now if Crawford thrives at leadoff and just hits like he did last year regardless of spot in the order). Just wanted to get some opinions.
PS: CUT DAISUKE!
