Via Jon Heyman: #redsox looking at madson. Sounds like boston will give bard chance to start. #angels looking for closer, too. Maybe orioles."

Andrew Bailey isn't the only closer they are considering, but all indications are they want Bard to start, given their searches.

If they think it can work, I'll defer to their judgment

But they must have some info or analysis that we don’t.

If the Red Sox do make Bard a starter

You and I need to make some kind of friendly wager on how it will go.

Bloggy's in Canada

can you ship beer across national borders privately?

by TheLoneDavid on Dec 7, 2011 7:27 PM EST up reply actions

Technically cannot ship it across state lines legally either...

One of those lessons learned back when I did alcohol education for college students… each state has their own liquor taxes, so it is illegal to transport or ship beer/wine/liquor across state lines without appropriate licenses (which, essentially, allow the states to collect their appropriate taxes from the seller).

I thought we’d never win it all. And then we went down 0-3 to the Yankees in 2004, and I thought it was the end of the world.

Wait ’til next year!

Good thing I didn't get pulled over

With the remnants of the case of Sierra Nevada from Thanksgiving in my trunk from Maine to Maryland.

You can travel with alcohol

you just can’t ship it. I know from when I took a six pack of Dragon’s Milk from Kalamazoo, Michigan to Norfolk, Virginia.

You can travel with it, if you don't get caught doing it.

I actually sat through a presentation on this topic with the Ohio equivalent to the ATF. In Cincinnati, for instance, a number of Kentucky liquor stores offer great specials in the Cincy papers (legal, since half the readership lives on the Kentucky side of the border)…

Cincy residents drive over the river and buy it there, since it’s cheaper, and the Ohio “ATF” runs stings where they capture the plate numbers of Ohio cars in the parking lots of Kentucky liquor stores, and radio them to cops on the Ohio side of the bridge, who pull them over and cite them for transporting liquor across state lines.

Everyone does it (nearly every adult in the room was floored during the presentation – which was aimed at teaching the college students the rules), but that doesn’t mean it is legal.

I thought we’d never win it all. And then we went down 0-3 to the Yankees in 2004, and I thought it was the end of the world.

Wait ’til next year!

Then why didn't the TSA come after me when my suitcase went through the x ray in Detroit Metro?

Or Gerald Ford International Airport in Kalamazoo for that matter?

cuz alcohol is not what they're scanning for

they’re looking for metals and explosives, not beer.

Or, that Bard is untrustworthy after losing 9 times last year

And that it can’t hurt to have somebody else around. Doesn’t mean the team is suicidal by letting Bard fail as a starter.

by Sean O on Dec 7, 2011 10:28 PM EST reply actions

Bard appears to be heading to the rotation...

We’ve all read his horrible numbers the summer after he was drafted as a starter. I for one don’t care for the following reasons. 1. It was like 3-4 years ago, I would hope he has learned a thing or two since then, 2. the fact they were messing around with his delivery is another huge factor for me, trying to do something that doesn’t come natural would certainly mess up any pitcher.

At this point this move appears to make a lot of sense. There are no reliable pitchers available so why not give Bard a shot. Worse case scenario he flames out and goes back to the pen by mid season. Best case scenario Bard take some of his ability and develops in to an extremely good 4th starter. Remember the they don’t need him to be a 1-2.
