The Red Sox obviously need pitching, and in a fairly thin free agent market, I think the Red Sox need to explore trades for pitchers. One trade I think they should explore is for Orioles righty Jeremy Guthrie. With just one year before he becomes a free agent, the Orioles may be shopping him to get some prospects in return. Guthrie hasn't been fantastic in 5 years with the Orioles, but he has been fairly consistent. He put up a 4.33 ERA and a 4.48 FIP in 2011, to go with 5.63 K/9 and 2.86 BB/9. Guthrie is also proven in the AL East, facing teams like the Red Sox and Yankees regularly. The Red Sox might not even have to give up a top-tier prospect for Guthrie, as he is not coming off of his best year. I definitely think this is a move worth looking into for the Red Sox.
