Throughout the 2011 season, I visited the OTM game threads quite a few times. Over that period, I collected that you all were not terribly impressed with Franklin Morales-- what with his control, which was shaky at best. The only reason he was really in our bullpen after a season in which he posted a 4.26 FIP and 4.39 xFIP to go with a 3.69 ERA was that he was a lefty. I figure, why not improve with a better left-handed reliever. Morales held lefties to a .238 batting average, which is not bad by any stretch of the imagination. However, Mike Gonzalez held lefties to a minuscule .211 batting average. He also put up better peripherals than Morales with a 4.11 FIP and 3.73 xFIP to go with a 4.39 ERA in a year split between the Rangers and Orioles. Gonzalez would help anchor a decent bullpen and would give us a more sturdy LOOGY option than Morales, who could round out the back end of the 'pen. Please comment what you think!
