Last night's amazing Game 6 got me thinking about the 1975 World Series, and Wikipedia's page on the affair led me to this article from a year ago by ESPN's Outside the Lines. In order for Carlton Fisk to hit his iconic extra-inning walk-off, Bernie Carbo had to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth with a pinch-hit three-run homer to deep left center. He was wasted at the time on some combination of pot, cocaine, crystal meth, alcohol, mescaline, pills--it's hard to say which.
