The 80s

I realize that some of our posters were not even born when the decade of the "80s" occured, but during the age of such well know hit music like "The Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats and "I Ran" by Flock of Seagulls, baseball was a thriving sport that went through some tumult (1981 strike and the 1987 "juiced ball" crisis) and some really bad uniforms (I'm looking at you Padres and Astros).

You might be saying - "Wait BZ - what does this have to do with the Red Sox?"

It does in this statement below

Red Sox thirdbaseman Wade Boggs was the best player in the decade (of all players who are not named Rickey Henderson).

I promise you this is my last FanPost about Boggs (until next year)

Using fangraphs very cool and fancy Multi-year leaders, I decided to see just who posted the most WAR during the 80s. (here is the list - http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=1989&month=0&season1=1980)

See!, but wait Boggs did not even start playing for real unitl 1983 - so Who was the best player from 83-89?

Take that Rickey Henderson!

59.6 WAR for 7 seasons, that my friends is an average of 8.5 WAR per year
