Mark Wagner (Catcher)

Acquired: Drafted in the 9th round of the 2005 amateur draft

Comments: It seems like Wagner has been around forever in the Sox system. In 2010 Wagner managed just 127 AB for AAA Pawtucket due to an injury (he hit 0.205/0.255/0.315). In 2007, at High-A, Wagner had his best season to date putting up a 0.318/0.406/0.503 in 431 PAs. Wagner is considered a defense-first type catcher as his offenseive game has not held up at the higher levels.
Career Stats (minors):
PA: 1817
BA: 0.267
OBP: 0.351
SLG: 0.427
OPS: 0.778
HR: 41
Analysis: Wagner is long past "prospect" status and has limited time remaining to perform at the major league level. In 2010 he should start back at Pawtucket and be the emergency catcher should Salty/Tek need a DL trip. Wagner is a good defensive catcher but his bat looks like it will be nothing more than replacement level at this point. A potential backup catcher in the majors if he can get a chance.
Tomorrow: Tim Wakefield
