Comments: Reddick is at the age where he should be cracking the starting OF for the Sox. He has power and is an above average defender with a plus arm. What is holding Josh back is his plate patience. In 481 PAs at Pawtucket last year Reddick had 28 2B, 4 3B and 18 HR but posted a paltry 0.301 OBP. He has hit 13 or more HR in each of his 4 minor league seasons. Reddick has had two cups of coffee with the parent club. Across 125 PAs he has walked 3 times and struck out 32.
Career Stats (minors):
PA: 1772
BA: 0.284
OBP: 0.332
SLG: 0.499
OPS: 0.831
HR/SB: 72/31
Unique Stats: Reddick came right out gunning in his first minor league season. In a mere 93 games in the outfield has had 19 assists.
Analysis: Reddick's window of opportunity is shrinking. He will be starting again at Pawtucket for his age 24 season. He needs to improve his plate approach to make it in the majors (at least with the Sox who value batters who can take walks). Reddick could move in to fill the RF spot when Drew leaves via FA but he is now competing with the better overall player in Ryan Kalish.
Tomorrow: Jarrod Saltalamacchia
