"40 in 40" - Pimentel, Stolmy

Stolmy Pimentel - NA (Pitcher)

Bats: Right, Throws: Right

Age: 21, Size: 6'3" 185lbs

Acquired: Signed as an IFA in 2006

Contract: 0.00 ML Service Time

Comments: The lanky Pimentel has appeared in the minor league system for 3 seasons since signing as an International Free Agent with the Sox. In 2008, Stolmy pitched 63 innings of low-A ball and put up a 3.14 ERA with 61 K's in 63 IP as well as only 17 walks. Pimentel moved up to Mid-A in 2009 where he posted a 3.82 ERA in 117+ IP with 29 BB and 103 SO. Last year in High-A, Pimentel struggled a bit but still posted a 4.02 ERA in 128+ innings. As you can tell, the Sox are slowly increasing his workload to go light on his arm. He fashions himself after Pedro Martinez. Pimentel throws a fastball in the 92-94 mph range, a two-seamer and a good change-up.

Prospect Rankings: Pimentel has appeared as high as #6 on the list of Red Sox prospects and currently sits there on www.soxprospects.com

Analysis: Pimentel is being groomed as a future rotation arm and the club is being very careful with his arm. He will likely start the year at High-A or possibly AA and be at that level for the season. Might see the majors in 2012 as a fill-in, September call-up.

Tomorrow: Josh Reddick
