Anymore moves?

I wonder if Theo is bargain shopping at all.  The only real spots of need on the team might be catching and left-handed relievers.  Now Theo could easily go to camp with this squad and be very successful, but there are plenty of options left. It would be awesome if Theo could grab Brian Fuentes or Dennys Reyes for a bargain price like 1 year/$4MM and let Oki-Doki pitch in AAA.  Also, Bengie Molina is still available and could be used to help 'Tek mentor Salty as well as platoon at C/1B/3B.  But I'll certainly be happy if the team that currently stands is what starts Spring Training.  The situations of Ellsbury, Matsuzaka, and Papelbon allow them to be trade bait in July because they all need big years and could be used to fill a gap at the Trade Deadline.

If they interest In Reyes over Okajima

they would already signed him for cheaper then they signed Okajima. Fuentes is too high profile of a pitcher to fit into our already high-profile bullpen. As for Molina, I don’t see him to be a soultion. If the Red Sox make any move, it would maybe be for an additional back up infielder(to compete in spring training) or a very low priced 6th starter( someone who could falter between the majors and triple A comfortably, as well as add depth).

I've already shifted gears

and am watching an exciting, young Padres team make some excellent January pickups.

Can they pick up a 3B?

I'm split between the leagues.

I grew up with the Sox, but I have fond memories of the Q and Petco during the summer. It just happens that Boston gets their business done in December and San Diego does theirs in January.

More moves!!--Finish off NYY

As a Red Sox fan still suffering from post-traumatic stress (active from 1968-1978, recovering with relapses in 1986 and playoff appearances in the 1990’s, renewed in 2004, relapsed watching the ENTIRE F-ING TEAM GET INJURED LAST YEAR), I’m paranoid and greedy and don’t care if they pay luxury tax to get this thing nailed:

1. I’d love a catcher who would either give us iron-clad up-the-middle defense or contribute significantly to the offense (especially against lefties)
2. I’d love a right-handed bat that would be a bit more fearsome and less recently/frequently injured than Cameron or MacDonald or Lowrie, though perhaps in addition to these great players.
3. I’d love a real LOOGY, or a LOOGY-plus who could hold down a whole inning late in the game and push some of the other team’s lefties (who will loaded in opposing lineups to take advantage of our 80% left-handed starting corps) out of the game for right-handed pinch-hitters who would then have to face Jenks, Bard and Papelbon.
4. MOST OF ALL, I don’t trust the solidity of our 3-4-5 starting pitchers—a fear I think is echoed in several other articles on this site and in the Herald and Globe. So most of all I’d love a left-handed starter who could slot into the 3-slot, pushing Beckett and Lackey down a notch and making Dice-K trade bait.

That’s all I want, let’s say 1. Napoli; 2. Fuentes; 3. Beltran or Guerrero; 4. ?

So are they done? Probably. Should they be done? Probably. Do I hope Theo has a couple more surprises up his sleeve? Definitely. Who expected what has already happened? Why not finish off the Yankees when we have the upper hand?

Trade Bard, Ellsbury & Prospect For Upton

Far Far More

Upton would require at least what it took to get Gonzalez.

Upton would cost WAY more than Gonzalez

He’s under team control through 2015, and will be ridiculously cheap (even assuming he falls below expectations) for the first four of those years.

And why would you want to lose Bard....

I love Lester, Pedroia, and Gonzo!!! ITS MAN LOVE!

I wouldnt want to lose Bard

but in order to get Upton, who is 24?, and can be a 5 tool player you would have to consider it. Bard would have to be included after the Agone trade because who else would another team want giving up a player of that caliber.
The trade wont happen anyways and dont worry Im sure Bard will be on the team for quite a long time.

Of the players who may be available this winter, there are only a few I give Bard up for.

Upton, Headley, and Soto. If Shin-Soo Choo magically becomes available he becomes the first choice.

I don't see it other than some Pawtucket pitching filler

maybe a veteran starter who doesn’t mind a stint at AAA to get back on track
