Well, they had to get someone, right? To me, this is not a great deal for the Yankees. Now, they are paying their set up man and closer a combined 26 million dollars (more than double Paps' salary). Also, in my eyes, Soriano is rather unproven. His career year last year included a ridiculously low BABIP, which he will never be able to duplicate. Without a doubt, he was still the most prized reliever on the market. But paying a set up man 11 million a year and a closer 15 is quite shocking--even for MFY. This was a knee-jerk reaction to losing out on Crawford, Lee, and others. The back end of their bullpen is probably the highest paid, but I would take Paps/Bard/Jenks over Rivera/Soriano/Feliciano any day. So at the end of the day, MFY got their wish and landed someone.
P.S. Sorry you didn't get your wish, Jared.
