Game 136: White Sox @ Red Sox -- September 5, 2010
Chicago White Sox at Boston Red Sox, Sep 5, 2010 1:35 PM EDT
Is it wrong that I kind of want the Red Sox to lose this one 1-3 too, just so we can say it happened.
For that to happen, Josh Beckett will have to keep his ERA somewhere below the 6.21 it's at.
Ditto Mark Buehrle with his 3-point-something.
I can't believe I spelled that right on the first try.
Yamaico Navarro? Jed Lowrie? Ryan Kalish? Looks like we're not in Boston anymore!
Wait, we are? What the hell?

Scutaro got called into Tito's office today, and is supposedly having an MRI.
If he’s done, maybe we’ll see a Lowrie, Navarro, Iglesias platoon for the middle infield. Also, I really hope Lars plays everyday for the rest of the year, or let’s move Vic to 1B and have Salt start at catcher. We have no future with Lowell.

I'd prefer to see more Salty to more Lars, personally.
And Scutaro should’ve been shut down ages ago.
USG
Yeah, I guess, but either way one month isn't going to tell us much if anything.
I think it’s just good to have these guys play more games.

I think this offseason will be uneventful,
Vic and Beltre will be back.

If it is
That’s pretty eventful in-and-of-itself.
Gotta imagine we add at least one solid bullpen pitcher, yeah?
USG
IDK, it depends what is solid, we'll probably just get some "value" guy.
By uneventful, I mean no new move that we didn’t see coming (Adrian, Iannetta).
"Every night I go to bed thinking about when I’m going to play again. I dream about playing at Fenway."-Ryan Westmoreland
Twitter: @BoldandBrash
I could see Iannetta happening, yeah.
But I don’t think we’ll go strictly “value” after this offseason’s fiasco resulted in this crap.
Probably target one of the guys the Rays ,lose.
USG
I hope so. How espensive do you think Iannetta would be?
Earlier, people were saying the deal would revolve around Kelly, which I don’t believe. Unless, Colorado is going to go with him instead of Olivo until Pacheco comes up. I’m starting to wonder about our future OF, more like 2012. We have Reddick, Lin, and other guys in the minors, but the 2012 FA class is barren. Although, it’s not like Werth or Crawford is a great investment either.

I dunno, they really seem loathe to make him their official catcher of the future.
With Pacheco and Rosario both pushing him, I can’t imagine they’re going to hold onto him much longer, either. He won’t be super-cheap, but I can’t imagine he would cost us Kelly, Ranaudo, or anyone of that type.
As for the OF, we have too many good OF prospects for me to worry. We’ll probably hold onto Ellsbury, Kalish will be a full starter at some point, and hopefully Reddick will join him.
USG
I've read several places that they want Olivo to be their guy for a couple years

Though I actually think they bring Doubront back as a pen member next year.
He’s too good as a LOOGY if nothing else, and I think they take the good of the team over keeping Doubront’s value all-the-way up as a starter they can’t really fit in.
USG
That's good because we didn't have a LOOGY this year.

It's almost bad that Jed is hitting this well
because when he gets the starting role and regresses, people will be saying: “see, I told you he sucks”

Twitter: @BoldandBrash
Are people so stupid that they won't accept a line of
.270/.355/.400 or so?
‘Cause I figure that’s about the low end of the power spectrum for Jed, and he can definitely take a walk. .800+ OPS is far from unlikely.
USG
From someone making the league-minimum?
I should hope not. We need far more of that, and far less Scutaro.

He's good, but I just thought he would have had more HR by now,
I just remeber him starting out fast, but he’s still good. I’d like him. I wonder if they would like Ells, plus some pitching.

Wow, even Pujols commented:
"If he doesn’t want to be here next year, we need to figure out a way to get him out of here and find somebody that wants to be here and play," said the nine-time All-Star. "That’s a reality.
"That’ll show you right there a young player that doesn’t respect what he’s got," Pujols added. "He needs to find out the talent and ability that he has and pretty much keep his mouth shut and play the game. Let the organization make those decisions, not himself."

If Larussa doesn't want him,
I’ll welcome him in Boston. What’s wrong? He just doesn’t like the guy?

La Russa plays Jon Jay and Winn over him. Or he platoons him.

9K's and just 1 run through 6 for Josh (despite the 9 hits), but he's at 100 pitches.
He should get the 7th. He’s pitching overall well
Heck of a play by Rios

can't blame Bard for the fielding effort there, even if it gets an error
and saddles Beckett with another ER and the possible Loss.
Why are we bunting?

Good work for Paps.
Hope he returns for the 9th if we don’t bust it open here. With Francona bringing in Oki, you never know what he’ll do though.
Good Ole Crapelbon

That's Francona's fault and his because he can't get anybody out.
It takes him like 10 pitches per AB because he has one pitch he can locate.

I'm gonna sound like a broken record here
But Tito screwed this game up but hard.
Bard has 10 pitches, and Okajima replaces him? Even if Doubront isn’t available yet, I’d prefer pretty much anyone over Okajima. Robert Coello was just called up, give him a go.
And with Papelbon clearly ineffective on a high pitch count, it takes three straight baserunners before he gets the hook. Ugh.
USG
This is what people don't watch, and then they get upset when somebody wants him fired.
It’s not like Francona does anything besides go to the pen, and he screws that up.

Did anyone have a better look than I did at the Bard error?
I’m running through a crappy SD slingbox connection. Should Lowell have come up with that?
USG
Youk would've come up with that, but he's a GG, so I'm gonna say it was Bard's fault.

TBS gave me a shit angle.
Bard knocked it down, threw it low and almost into the runner from what I can remember. I think the runner was about to he Lowell’s back. Again, this is off of memory.

Turn in your Uni
Manuel should be made to hand in his uniform and clean out his locker. That is horrendous. Of course Pap put him in that position. Not to mention Theo for having Pap pitch a ton of pitches. And of course DirecTV just blacked me out and I have to watch the Chi broadcast. If I have to hear them say “our Sox” one more freakin time!

Typo. I meant TITO put Pap in for a ton of pitches.

Screw that, I want to see the call-ups actually get some decent time and boost our draft position.
Gimme 26 more losses.
USG
that would be good
but those are 26 losses i dont want to watch.
I want to see the call ups acutally get to play to see if they are any good.
not 1 IP and then a demotion.

yeah its a nice thought
but tito treats these guys like glass bowls. They’l barely get any time even after the sox are 10 games out.
instead...
we’l probably get a couple more 33 yr old minor leaguers.
The Chi broadcasters are idiots. When Kalish K’d they said “He gone!”. Now they’re talking to their pitcher like he can hear! They suck!!

If we go 5-20 the rest of the way (not unheard of given our closing schedule), we finish .500.
5 freakin’ hundred! Toronto is 70-66 right now.
I'd love .500 right now.
The season is done. May as well protect our first rounder from Type-A signings.
