Game 136: White Sox @ Red Sox -- September 5, 2010

Chicago White Sox at Boston Red Sox, Sep 5, 2010 1:35 PM EDT

Is it wrong that I kind of want the Red Sox to lose this one 1-3 too, just so we can say it happened.

For that to happen, Josh Beckett will have to keep his ERA somewhere below the 6.21 it's at.

W-L G GS CG SHO SV BS IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP
2010 - Josh Beckett 4-4 16 16 0 0 0 0 95.2 109 70 66 14 30 86 6.21 1.45

Ditto Mark Buehrle with his 3-point-something.

W-L G GS CG SHO SV BS IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP
2010 - Mark Buehrle 12-10 27 27 2 0 0 0 173.1 192 81 76 15 42 77 3.95 1.35

I can't believe I spelled that right on the first try.

Yamaico Navarro? Jed Lowrie? Ryan Kalish? Looks like we're not in Boston anymore!

Wait, we are? What the hell?

Scutaro got called into Tito's office today, and is supposedly having an MRI.

If he’s done, maybe we’ll see a Lowrie, Navarro, Iglesias platoon for the middle infield. Also, I really hope Lars plays everyday for the rest of the year, or let’s move Vic to 1B and have Salt start at catcher. We have no future with Lowell.

I think it’s just good to have these guys play more games.

If it is

That’s pretty eventful in-and-of-itself.

Gotta imagine we add at least one solid bullpen pitcher, yeah?

USG

by Ben Buchanan on Sep 5, 2010 2:12 PM EDT up reply actions

IDK, it depends what is solid, we'll probably just get some "value" guy.

By uneventful, I mean no new move that we didn’t see coming (Adrian, Iannetta).

I could see Iannetta happening, yeah.

But I don’t think we’ll go strictly “value” after this offseason’s fiasco resulted in this crap.

Probably target one of the guys the Rays ,lose.

USG

by Ben Buchanan on Sep 5, 2010 2:17 PM EDT up reply actions

I hope so. How espensive do you think Iannetta would be?

Earlier, people were saying the deal would revolve around Kelly, which I don’t believe. Unless, Colorado is going to go with him instead of Olivo until Pacheco comes up. I’m starting to wonder about our future OF, more like 2012. We have Reddick, Lin, and other guys in the minors, but the 2012 FA class is barren. Although, it’s not like Werth or Crawford is a great investment either.

I dunno, they really seem loathe to make him their official catcher of the future.

With Pacheco and Rosario both pushing him, I can’t imagine they’re going to hold onto him much longer, either. He won’t be super-cheap, but I can’t imagine he would cost us Kelly, Ranaudo, or anyone of that type.

As for the OF, we have too many good OF prospects for me to worry. We’ll probably hold onto Ellsbury, Kalish will be a full starter at some point, and hopefully Reddick will join him.

I've read several places that they want Olivo to be their guy for a couple years

Though I actually think they bring Doubront back as a pen member next year.

He’s too good as a LOOGY if nothing else, and I think they take the good of the team over keeping Doubront’s value all-the-way up as a starter they can’t really fit in.

That's good because we didn't have a LOOGY this year.

Are people so stupid that they won't accept a line of

.270/.355/.400 or so?

‘Cause I figure that’s about the low end of the power spectrum for Jed, and he can definitely take a walk. .800+ OPS is far from unlikely.

"That’ll show you right there a young player that doesn’t respect what he’s got," Pujols added. "He needs to find out the talent and ability that he has and pretty much keep his mouth shut and play the game. Let the organization make those decisions, not himself."

I'm gonna sound like a broken record here

But Tito screwed this game up but hard.

Bard has 10 pitches, and Okajima replaces him? Even if Doubront isn’t available yet, I’d prefer pretty much anyone over Okajima. Robert Coello was just called up, give him a go.

And with Papelbon clearly ineffective on a high pitch count, it takes three straight baserunners before he gets the hook. Ugh.
