Papelbon is toast
3.92 era as a closer? Do we need any more proof. He is officially now dead wood on the trading block. Next we will find out he has been playing hurt all season and has not told anyone. Kind of like that person who fakes an illness to get out of something he will fail at. Guess i need 75 words to post here so I am just taking up space. I feel my point has been made without all the extra words needed.

If you need spacefillers you need a fanshot.
I don’t think Papelbon lost his role as a closer because of this game, I think he’s lost it because of the many games this year he has come out and just sucked. This game? It’s a game against a bad team we were losing against when our season was already over, we’re playing for a better draft position now.

Papelbon is worse than toast.
At least toast satisfies you for a while.
Every Red Sox loss, I like to blame on the Yankees. Every Yankees win, I like to blame the Rays.
Toast
I don’t even think he got a slight browning happening, if anything he’s turning closer to alabaster white…..
On that note, I am happy he was here for the last WS, but I wonder if the $$ were playing in his head!
Kinda sad if thats the case… he had a chance to be like Mr. Dependable in NY, instead a rip-cord on his future was yanked……
Oh well
I got bad news.....
for all Pabblebon haters………..he IS the closer for the 2011 Red Sox. He has little trade value with one arbitration year left, unless they absolutly dump him for a bag of balls. No, he has much more potential value, even for one last year, to the Red Sox in 2011. He is not going to setup Bard, so we are stuck with him as closer.
I realize this is the case
But I really think he should be non-tendered. He just isn’t worth anywhere close to the $12-13 million he’ll get.
I would like a list of relievers worth 12 to 13 mil year
The only name that comes to mind is Rivera.

Nathan used to be.

Key words, Used to be
Maybe Bard will one day be worth that much, he has great stuff.

...so he has a contract
That’s a terrible reason to use him as a closer.
I would like to understand why so many different Red Sox pitchers have underperformed.
That won't matter much
Remember that game against MFY where Bard came in for the 7th or 8th and got out of a bases loaded jam? If he’s the “closer”, does that happen in the future? I dislike the roles.

I think they should
But what’s the difference between Paps blowing it in the 8th and Paps blowing it in the 9th? Either way, Paps blows it.
