Jacoby Ellsbury To Be Activated Tomorrow
Long injured outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury will be activated from the disabled list tomorrow.
Ellsbury, suffering from five fractured ribs, has only played in nine games this season, and has been out since May 24. He has spent the last two weeks rehabbing between the Gulf Coast League, Double-A Portland, and Triple-A Pawtucket, hitting .406/.486/.469 between the three teams.
The Red Sox have yet to announce a counter move, but with Ryan Kalish performing well in his first few games at the major league level, will likely involve Eric Patterson, Darnell McDonald, or Daniel Nava. Given the organization's reluctance to remove players without options from the roster, Daniel Nava might be the obvious choice.

FRACK
I’m sorry – but frankly, it will suck to send Nava back down since, basically he is by far the better hitter than the other guys.
At least D-Mac has been tolerably productive and Ellsbury likely will be too. But I just find it unfathomable why Patterson is still on a major league roster – let alone ours.
Goodbye Patterson
I hope. If its Kalish I am ging to be mad

Please, PLLLEEEASE...
…Patterson. Least current and future potential benefit to the club, particularly with Lowrie up.
Wait 'til next/this year?

fine, lets call it
1 and 2 halves second basemen, in three people. Although, to be fair, Hall has made some good plays there. Not close to the same level as pedroia, and not near as good as lowrie, but he hasn’t looked terrible there.
Patterson is the only one who makes sense
to this point, they’ve been reluctant to get rid of players because of versatility. At this point, however, with a proper center fielder, we have at least two other players in each of his positions who are better:
2B: Lowrie, Hall
LF: Kalish, McDonald, Hall, Nava
RF: Drew, Kalish, Hall, McDonald
CF: Ellsbury, Kalish, McDonald
And Nava is obviously the better left-handed hitter off of the bench. I just can’t imagine the scenario in which Patterson would need to be used. I’ll be terribly upset if Nava goes down.
Gotta be Patterson! Right?
How can we continue to give Patterson ABs when the guy can’t crack .210?!? Nava might not be an every day player but he, as well as Darnell, have shown they can come off the bench and get hits. If we have any hopes of getting to October, we need guys who can do that. I think Nava has the best bat out of all of them and McDonald is the better defender. Patterson does nothing at all well. It’s got to be a no brainer here. Patterson has some speed but McDonald isn’t exactly slow! Glad Ells is back and can’t wait for Pedroia. God please don’t let Youk need surgery!!
Patterson, Lowrie, Lowell, VMart, Salty?
Okay, some odd reasoning here.
Assumption 1: VMart must play all the time.
Assumption 2: Cash should never play.
Assumption 3: Lowell isn’t an everyday player.
If Lowell is to play every other day, then VMart plays 1B every other day. We don’t want Cash catching every other day. Call up Salty to catch every other day, at least we’re seeing what we’ve got in August before Tek comes back up. Now, with VMart, Lowell and even Salty as part-time 1B, Lowrie never has to play 1B (and should be a proper everyday 2B)…..more ammunition to send Patterson packing. And, of course, the Laser Show is probably 10 days away….
They won't rush Salty back to the show
They got him to be a future catcher, not a backup, or else he’d never have gone to Triple-A.

Nava needs to stay
Like wolf9309 said above, Patterson’s versatility is covered by many other people.
I want to believe Patterson
But my heart just knows it’s gonna be Nava.
Mostly because Nava doesn’t need to be DFA’ed and because Lowrie still can’t play every day. IF Bill Hall were to be hurt (which honestly at this point, would it surprise anyone?) then Lowrie would have to be an every day player and they don’t think he’s there yet.
This sucks but… We’ll see you again soon Nava!

I'm pretty sure I read that it's gonna be Nava going down.

Are we going to have Ells leading off?
I don’t think that would be too smart right away.
I love Lester and Pedroia!!! ITS MAN LOVE!
Lead Ells off w/ Scoot at #2 until Laser Show resumes
JDD is much more effective south of #5.
I would like Ells 2nd and not leading off. But its all good.
Better than Patterson or Dmac.

I gotta think it makes sense to give him a game or two batting 9th to get reacquainted
I do like cds7c’s idea down there.
actually, apparently he is leading off tonight
And Cash catching with Martinez at 1st. Be interesting to see if Francona ends up kind of platooning Lowell. I can understand it defensively, but I’d much rather have Lowell’s bat against righties than Cash’s bat against anything except maybe slow pitch softball.
agreed
