Minor Lines 8/27/10: The Homer Race Tightens
Pawtucket W 6-5
Box Score
Sometimes you just gotta go ahead and score five in the ninth.
Josh Reddick: 3-5, 2B, HR
-Has doubled his home run total from April-July
Eric Patterson: 2-5, 2B, 2 K, 2 SB
Jarrod Saltalamacchia: 2-5, 2 2B
Lars Anderson: 1-5, K
Jeremy Hermida: 1-5, 2 K
How's Rizzo gonna keep his lead if he keeps walking? For shame...Uh...After the jump.
Portland W 5-1
Nate Spears: 1-4, BB, K
Jose Iglesias: 0-4, BB, K
Anthony Rizzo: 1-3, 2 BB, K
Luis Exposito: 0-4, BB, K, PB
Ryan Lavarnway: 1-2, HR, 2 BB, K
-Getting back in that homer race with Rizzo.
Alex Wilson: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 8 K, E
-Seems like Lester wasn't the only one pitching like this yesterday. Very similar to his last start.
Jason Rice: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
Salem L 1-2
Ryan Dent: 0-3, 2 K
Oscar Tejeda: 0-3, BB, K
Will Middlebrooks: 0-3, BB
Alex Hassan: 1-3
Tim Federowicz: 1-4, 2 K
Brock Huntzinger: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HR
Greenville Game 1 W 5-3 (In 7)
Jeremy Hazelbaker: 2-3, 2B, SB, E
Derrik Gibson: 1-2, SB
Michael Almanzar: 2-2, BB
Kolbrin Vitek: 1-3, 2B
Reymond Fuentes: 0-2, BB, 2 SB, POCS
-Between a .329/.413/.457 August (backed by a 10:13 BB:K) and his 40 steals in 44 attempts, Fuentes is starting to round more into what the Sox perhaps expected. Good thing, too. His July was painful.
Shannon Wilkerson: 0-2
Manny Rivera: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 HR
-A 5.90 ERA in his last 10 starts despite an awesome 41:3 K:BB ratio. The seven homers are likely culprits, though he's actually keeping the ball on the ground a lot better in the period than he had the rest of the season.
Greenville Game 2 L 2-4 (In 7)
Jeremy Hazelbaker: 1-2, 2 BB
Derrik Gibson: 1-3, BB
Michael Almanzar: 1-2, SB
Kolbrin Vitek: 0-2, BB
Reymond Fuentes: 1-3
Shannon Wilkerson: 1-3
Drake Britton: 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K
-Has pitched five innings every other game for the last few weeks, so they're seemingly getting more comfortable with letting him work his arm. Or he could just be ridiculously eficient?
Lowell W 7-1
Bryce Brentz: 0-2, 2 BB, 2 K, SB
Miles Head: 0-3, BB, 2 K
Brandon Jacobs: 1-3, BB
David Renfroe: 0-3, BB, 2 K
GCL Red Sox W 9-3
Jose Vinicio: 1-5
Oscar Perez: 1-4, BB, K, 2 PO

How did Fuentes get that line?
How do you steal 2 BB and get caught stealing with no hits and only one walk? Did he get on base through an HBP or error or something?

Or was he caught trying to steal home?

It was a pick off at third.
But he did reach via error once.

Lavarnway is turning into a serial rakist.
Brett Anderson is the Truth. Brett Anderson is divine presence. Brett Anderson is eternal life. Brett Anderson is within you. Brett Anderson is here. Brett Anderson is Now.
Could somebody give me a projection of where the catchers will start next year?
I’m thinking Expo should start in AAA, and maybe Salt will be up and down from AAA (depending on his performance). Lavarnway hasn’t played much AA, but if he continues to swing it, then a quick promotion could be in store there. Ibarra is 23, so I’m guessing he wold be in either Salem or Portland. Plus, Varitek is a free agent, so if we don’t bring him back, somebody has to be a backup.

not really
Salty isn’t eligible to come off the DL until the 31st so he can’t come up, and at that point, might as well just wait until the 1st so that we can have 3 catchers on the roster until Tek comes back. Reddick can also come up on the first, and it would be silly to send down Nava for 10 days to bring up Reddick when we could just have both of them in 3 days.

No
Id rather have Nava than Reddick right now.
Reddick needs more time to develop.
