Dustin Pedroia 'Probably' Done For Year ... Like We Didn't See That Coming

It seems that Dustin Pedroia will most likely be out for the rest of the season, ending his up-and-down 2010 campaign.

Does this really surprise anyone, though? Pedroia is arguably the team's best player and the Red Sox are fighting for third place right now. They weren't going to throw Pedroia out there in September to try and rack in a few more wins in a season that has been an uphill climb since the getgo. It just isn't worth risking more injury to one of the best second basemen in baseball.

So, sure, this is "news" but it's news like, "Yuniesky Betancourt had a bad season" news -- you saw it coming from a mile away.

At this point in the season, the Red Sox need to just let Pedroia get healthy for 2011 and see if Bill Hall/Jed Lowrie/Yamaico Navarro/Scrub No. 4 can pick up the slack in the meantime.

I don't think it's what you're thinking

Ellsbury wasn’t terribly popular here on this site last year, either, not just the injury thing. I still like him, personally.

my post came off a bit angrier than intended but....

just hearing from a bunch of fans on EEI, it just irritates me to hear all the shit talking about him.

you can count me in the “Dale & Holley” camp of “out of all the players on the team, why do they choose him to point the finger at?”

i’m not a huge ellsbury fan or anything, but the guy has a pretty big impact on our team. he’s important to the formula whether you like him or not. the fact that people dwell on his slow recovery as opposed to just letting him “do his thing” is just irritating. it’s like hearing a bunch of spoiled, bratty kids complain they didn’t get the right video game for christmas.

I agree to some extent

I mean people are just writing him off like it’s over and a bad player, I mean, just check the 2011 roster post, people aren’t even including him, it’s so easy to forget he had increased his OBP to over .350 last year and is still young enough to fix his defense if he tried, it isn’t for a lack of physical ability for certain.

That being said, Ellsbury did himself no favors this year. Being hurt that long and not saying anything to the media is a big no-no. When people don’t KNOW what is wrong or what he’s doing it’s very easy to GUESS the wrong thing. Maybe he was working hard to come back, no one knows for sure. But Pedrioa and Youk are up front and talking about it and at least saying the right things and that is a big part of it in this town, you have to handle the media and he hasn’t done it too well this year.

you could make the case that JD Drew handled his injuries the same way. people talked boatloads of shit about the guy, but he’s so ignorant (not in a bad way) of the media that eventually that all went away.

meanwhile, he’s making 15mil a season, he never put in a full season without injury up until now. ellsbury is making peanuts in comparison and everyone throws him under the bus. yeah, he should’ve stayed with the team instead of going to AZ. i get that, but i’d be pretty pissed off too if my team doctor misdiagnosed me and (supposidly) refused an MRI scan. taking me out of centerfield and replacing me with a washed up old-timer would piss me off too.

he has his reasons for not talking yet everyone hangs him out to dry. i find that annoying

I hope you aren't refering to Cameron as the washed up old-timer

2009
AVG/OBP/SLG/UZR150
.250/.342/.452/11.4

2008
.243/.331/.477/16.6

OPSing right around .800 with plus defense is the exact opposite of washed up so theres that.

Well JD Drew has been worth every penny he gets paid and then some and might be argued that besides Ortiz, was maybe Theo’s best move getting him. In terms of being replaced in CF, the stats above sorta support that move, Ells doesn’t play plus defense, Cameron does when healthy. He didn’t need to say alot, but he had to say SOMETHING. Even a damn tweet along the lines of “Workin hard 2 b bak in da game” or what ever injured sports stars tweet about just let give off the impression he was trying. Frigin Pedrioa was taking grounders from his knees the day after he got hurt. Just a sign of improvement was all Ells had to do, not make a big deal of it, just say “Hey, I’m around and I want to be back.”
