I don't think it makes any sense to bring him up anyway
He’s a known head case who’s found some success lately, same with Reddick. Keep them down and end their season with Pawtucket. No sense ruining any end of year confidence they might have by throwing them to the wolves of MLB pitching.

But Lars will need to be on the 40-man anyways. And they need an extra 1B.

But I’m not sure it’s worth bringing him up. I think Bates makes more sense because we won’t be potentially crushing his development by killing any built up confidence. If there is one player I want to see end the season on a definite high note to take into offseason training it’s Lars and he won’t get that in Boston.

True on the Lars statement
I wanted Lars beacuse he is LHH and Bates is RHH, though Bates is more versitile and thats what this team needs, he may be a better option. He is Rule 5 eligable as well, but I dont think keeping him is as vital as Lars

If they do put Bates back on the 40 man in place of Lars, he’ll be off as soon as they do need to put Lars on it for Rule 5 purposes. I can’t really imagine anyone trying to take Bates via the draft.
