Eric Patterson to the Disabled list- Nava Recalled

Photo

Yes Red Sox fans, your non-Youk related prayers have been answered.  Or at least mine have, as I posted that I wanted Daniel Nava rather than Eric Patterson maybe 20 minutes ago.  With Pedroia coming up, the decision must have been that we have enough middle infield and outfield depth and it would be nice to have someone else that could hit on the 25 man.

My guess is, unless (or until) Cameron comes back, Kalish will be playing center most of the time and we'll be seeing Nava in left field against a lot of right-handed pitchers.  Tonight, of course, in the lineup, we have a starting outfield of McDonald-Kalish-Drew.

Not too bad.

In the grand scheme of things

Maybe expectations have been lowered, maybe guys have been playing out of their minds.

But an OF of Nava, Kalish, Drew is actually palatable, if not fairly decent. Beats the crap out of Hall, Patterson, Drew or any other combination or permutation of Hall, Drew, Kalish, McDonald and Patterson.

While you’re saying your prayers wolf, could you mention that Rogue could really use an anonymous deposit of a few hundred bucks in his checking account, nothing gaudy, just rent. You on fiya today, keep it going!

THIS

Is all that I have been begging for for weeks. Nava – Kalish – Drew. Solid.

(Well, not the part about the anonymous deposit into Rogue’s accounts. I was thinking, well, more about me own accounts, as far as that sorta topic would be consoined …)

I don't mind McDonald in CF

I haven’t seen enough games lately to get a sense of Kalish’s range and reads off the bat, but I’m open for him in CF as well.

After Bill Hall has played multiple games out there, nearly anyone not named Cash or Patterson is an improvement

Patterson is disabled?

How can you tell?

Speaking of "disabled"

Amalie Benjamin tweets that Youk is hoping can return for the playoffs.

Badass. Or, as Bill Simmons would have it, “My God! That’s Kevin Youkilis’ music!

You're right, it's probably not going to happen

Realistically, it’s unlikely the Sox even make the playoffs — they just have too many injuries and too few decent pitchers in the bullpen to be likely to make up enough ground at this point.

But if they do? I’m thinking it’s been 22 years since we had a good Kirk Gibson moment.

by RSNexile on Aug 17, 2010 5:46 PM EDT up reply actions

I can happen!

Look, let’s say we gain, like, two games before going into Tampa, and are 3. GB? Are we not in it then?

I didn't say it's impossible

I said it’s not likely. And it’s not our odds of making the playoffs are about 25% right now, which means we’re three times as likely not to make the playoffs. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible, but again, it does mean that it’s not likely.

So yeah, it could happen. And Pedroia could hit three home runs again today, but it’s not likely.

should have been Reddick

at least thats useful experience. Theres no future in the Nava business, we’ve seen his 15 mins.

by cds7c on Aug 17, 2010 9:01 PM EDT reply actions

Reddick just needs to finish the AAA season first.

He’s been up and down, right when he gets hot, we call him up, and then he gets cold in the bigs and AAA. Let him continue to play well. At least Nava has had success in MLB.

How can you discount anyone this year?

Especially Nava?

The man has hit at every single level of baseball we’ve put him at. A ball? Piece of cake. Portland? No problem. Pawtucket? Are you guys joking me? Then he came into Boston and hit the same we he did before. The guys got a legit bat. His defense is a little suspect but he plays OK in the corners. The guy is an asset as a 4th OF.

Let’s not ruin the progress Reddick has made (he’ll probably get a September callup anyway, as ill advised as it is). The guy has major hot/cold spells, he’s been hot lately and he can build off of the success and confidence, just not a good time for him.
