More BABIP Regression for Reddick
But once again, no Ks, just hit balls that landed in a mitt. If he’s still making contact, I’m still likin’ it.
Not enjoying the Pawtucket relievers though.

I'd be all for promoting Salty based purely on that
on the theory that hey, he might suck horribly, but there’s a good chance that it still might be better than Cash.
Actually, I don’t even need that performance to justify it. I’d take him over Cash based purely on the fact that he owns catcher’s gear, sight unseen.
NNNNAAAVVVVVA
and where in the world is Hermida gonna play in Pawtuckt? For God’s sake, they are already putting people on the TIA, whcih I never heard of until now.

i think his primary position will be
sitting and seeing if someone decides to trade for him last minute (since he did clear waivers). Maybe DH once Delgado’s gone, if that’s before the Pawtucket season is over.
But
Ryan Shealy is the DH

yes but while there is a prayer of Hermida looking pretty good in AAA and some team trading something (anything) for him in the offseason
there is not for Shealy. Neither one is relevant this year for Boston or going to be around next year, so it’s otherwise pretty much a wash. More to gain from Hermida for Boston (and for Pawtucket, as Hermida at least has some name recognition value that may get people a little more excited for a couple of games)
what about
Bates? Will he be back by Monday?

Iglesias has been doing great since coming back.
Always nice to see.
Yeah
He hasn’t given us any reason to worry about him so far.

Tampa Bay down 3-1 in the 9th.
I’ll go ahead and say tonight is a must win, to gain some ground, if Tampa loses.
Agreed
We got Dice out of the way so who knows what happens tonight.

aaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnndddddd Hall get’s the start at 2B instead of Lowrie. Seriously, if the kid can’t play back to back, put him back on the DL so we don’t have to go through this every night.
All I want to see is Lowrie and Kalish play on the same nights, is that so hard to ask?

More bullshit excuses from Francona
Hey says Lowrie is gonna play SS tomorrw, so he doesn’t want to get him too tired. Seriously, baseball isn’t that tough. If he can’t play 2 or 3 games in a row, he definitely shouldn’t be playing at all. If it’s THAT bad, he should be just doing absolutely nothing. I don’t buy this.

from Peter Abraham:
Jed Lowrie is out of the lineup because they want to get as many righthanded hitters in there against the lefty tomorrow. Lowrie has yet to start three games in a row since he came back.
Um ok, wanting to get righthanded hitters in against a lefty I can understand. But if Lowrie is playing shortstop instead of Scutaro, then it’s the same number of right handed hitters against the lefty. Unless of course, he changed his mind and decided Scutaro will start tomorrow and is putting Hall in for one of the outfielders. I’m sure McDonald will be in for Ellsbury. This sounds ridiculous. But I’ll withold my anger and judgment about that until I actually see tomorrow’s lineup.

Yeah, I'm not understanding the hate here.
We have a bunch of fragile players an Hall isn’t that bad.

We should try and stick with one lineup.
I’m not really understanding this fragile thing. Sitting Kalish against lefties for Hall doesn’t make much sense, and I can’t believe Lowrie is in such bad shape that he can’t play 2-3 games in a row. This isn’t football; we don’t need Lowrie to put back on the pounds that he lost so he can be our running back. I agree that Hall isn’t bad, let’s just get a set lineup.

This
Hall isn’t the worst alternative, but we have players that are better than him at positions he plays. If we have Kalish and Lowrie, they should both be playing ahead of him.
"We are not normal, We are Legends. People will tell their kids about us." - Deon Butler before Ohio State Game 2008.
I guess...
full disclosure – Hall’s HR reminded me of my post.
I don’t have a problem with the mixing and matching… we have some injury problems and we have some players with limitations in their game. I realize its not aesthetically pleasing for the fans, but I think its probably the best for the ballclub, especially in terms of getting everyone ABs to keep them going. If I were Tito I would be very concerned about keeping guys fresh, too. Then again, I think Tito is probably the best manager in the game. Rarely does he make a move I disagree with it, and when he does I understand what he was thinking.
I’m also not sure Kalish or Lowrie are better options than Hall. If they are, it isn’t by much. Hall’s swing has been reworked and he’s closer to the 2006 version. I think the proper thing to do is keep him going by using him as a super sub.
As to Lowrie’s health… I don’t know that any of us really has the inside scoop on him, but I doubt Tito or the team is exaggerating his health concerns…
Also, other than CF – where he’s overexposed, Hall’s defense doesn’t bother me. I think he’s perfect as the Mark McLemore on the 01 Mariners super sub role. A little power, a little speed, a 10% BB rate and a little defense. He does have 14 HRs, btw. I actually really hope we can get him back next year, but we’ll have to agree early because we can’t offer him arb (we’d be guaranteeing him like $8mm). The way he’s playing he’s probably convinced some team to give him a shot to start again, actually. I bet the Mariners still wish they had him back – He’d be leading the M’s in HRs… by 4! (ignoring park effects…)

I concur with this
I’ve consistently said that Hall bothers me a lot less at 2B than in the outfield – he especially looks overmatched in CF.
He has had some highly visible goofs at 2B that people notice – me too – but I know that overall he’s doing OK there. And yesterday he legitimately had a great day defensively as well as at the plate.
I agree with the Mark McLemore comparison (I watched MM starting way back in Baltimore – man did he carve out a long career. A real nice guy – still very popular in Baltimore after all these years.). Hall is probably not as good a fielder as MM (I’d have to check -that’s just my subjective memory there), but Hall has a lot more pop in his bat.
The substitutions that drive me nuts are not with Hall. They are the use of Patterson and Hermida for so long – thank gawd Hermida is now gone. Those guys were hurting the team in a bad way. Yes, I understand about who has options and how retaining Patterson is all about preserving assets. But from a play-on-the-field perspective, putting Patterson out there over other options (i.e. Nava) has literally hurt this team in real, measurable ways.
Obviously, having to use Cash, Brown & Molina hurt us even more so – those guys were far worse than probably just having our pitchers bat. But THOSE substitutions were very clear cut. Because of injuries to Wagner, et al, we literally had no other options.
And Nava just plain continues to hit.
Career in the minors .340 / .433 /.533 (1271 PAs, all levels)
In Pawtucket, 2010: .300/.378/.476 (304 PAs)
In Boston, 2010: .290/.383/.452 (107 PAs)
Do we need any more proof this guy can hit?
We're not worried about signing draft picks yet, are we?
They’re all over slot, longer negotiation usually nets a better deal for the prospect, league approval, yada-yada-yada, right?
Wait 'til next/this year?
