They have to be on the 40 man right?

If that’s the case, Nava, Reddick (maybe), Bowden, Manuel?

But they have 38 guys on the 40 man

any chance they expand it to 40?

Well Ibarra get’s one spot for sure since he has a major league contract like Iglesias. I would love to see them clear off some space, since they’re going to have to do it anyway but, one more, let’s see, Coello?

Oh crap

It would be Delgado as long as he doesn’t crap the bed I’m sure.

Or

When Pedey comes back Patterson better have his ass on the DFA bus, which is another opening, maybe Coello then, or another of the Pawtucket relievers.

Or

One of the unexciting Pawtucket infielders, Romero, Shealy, Hannahan, Velazquez.

For your sake, I’d like to say yes. ;-P

But, Bates has to get back onto a crowded Pawtucket roster before it’s a possibility. He’s got a couple weeks though, so, maybe.

I think hes a better option than Shealy at the least. hes been better lately, and has decent power.

I think so too, I like Bates more than most of the vets we have in AAA right now. I wouldn’t mind though seeing some sort of trade being made for one of the spots, sort of like Kotsay and Byrd in 08.

Much less of a chance of ruining a 27 year old than Lars. There is the whole is-he-40-man-roster-worthy argument from yesterday though.

there's gotta be a specific set of circumstances for them to call up Delgado

which would be- he hits really well in the minors and we’re in serious contention in two weeks. Otherwise, no point in wasting the money.

by wolf9309 on Aug 10, 2010 12:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Well

We have 6 games against the Yankees in our final 9 games. After this weekend, well, we played like crap, but if we had hit just a little better we take 3 out of 4. So it restored some hope for me if we’re within a few games at the end of the year, playoffs are possible if we can dominate those last two series.

Delgado, I suspect, will hit fine in the minors, his last full season he was still a good hitter. He and Lowell had the same problem and Lowell just clobbered the minors. He’ll be up, one month of $3mil prorated is what? $500,000? Small price for one last push.

Would be nice to make a waiver move or two

Because the vets we have in AAA are just damned depressing. If we can clear up roster spots I’d hate to see Shealy or Hannahan in one of them.

So my first though was:

Man, Pawtucket must have played a great pitcher, 7Ks? Wow.

Kei Igawa.

Some BABIP normalizing for Reddick I guess, he’s still getting the bat on the ball, no Ks there. And Rich Hill is a starter again, that whole pitching staff has been turned upside down. Bowden, Coello, Doubront as relievers, RamARam and Hill as starters.

Carlos Delgado

We need to make sure this guy’s hip is 100% before we spend the money. Alot of times with this kind of injury the power leaves. I’m hoping its not the case cause we need another power left handed bat.

by DaninOrlando on Aug 10, 2010 12:40 PM EDT reply actions

We will see

I give him one week to suck and get back into the grind of playing baseball every day and then another one or two to see if he can show anything with the bat, then the decision has to be made since it’ll be September 1st.

WBRZ sports reporter in Baton Rouge: “I’m hearing the #redsox and LSU pitcher Anthony Ranaudo are a little more than $3 million apart..”

The figure Boras would have to be after for that to be true seems absolutely insane. Very skeptical.

Maybe we haven't offered and they want $3 mil

If this works the way I’ve seen in the movies and on TV, we meet in the middle at $1.5 mil and everyone is happy.

Lowrie in a 2B today.

…annnnnnnnd Hall in LF instead of Kalish…

We all know the lineup we want to see, why can’t we just get it once?

Scoot
Drew
Ortiz
VMart
Beltre
Lowell
Kalish
Lowrie
Ellsbury

Is that so hard?

We have better players. Bill Hall should be on the bench.

I really wish Lowrie could play every day

Because really, we still have no idea what he looks like when he plays every day, and we won’t because Pedrioa is back in what, 1-2 weeks?

Some day this team will be healthy enough that Hall, Patterson and Cash are off the team or on the bench.

Dude has raked everywhere

Needs to pick it up in Portland but, yeah, def a candidate. Is there a knock on him? I feel like a guy who hits as much as him would be more hyped, does he call games well? Bad at defense?
