MLB Trade Deadline Open Thread
Got news? Got rumors? Want to moan about how the season is over and we should be selling, or that the only reason that's true is because we didn't already make a trade, or that people are giving up too early? Go for it!
So far so quiet on deadline day. The Pirates picked up Chris Snyder, of all teams, and there's some stuff floating around about the Cardinals and Jake Westbrook, but that's about it.

LOL, the season is over...
Not yet. if we win the next two and the Yankees do too, we are only 4.5 out.
We do need a bullpen pitcher though.
I proposed this deal at Minor League Ball: Wieland and Reddick for Downs?

Wieland and Reddick aren’t worth the picks Downs could get if he’s type A (I think he is)

Looks like we may have to settle for youth in the pen
Bowden and Doubront coming up?…oh and the Rays got Chad Qualls and his 8+ ERA
Yeah, I wanted nothing to do with Qualls.
No issue with Bowden and Doubront, but the Sox are gonna look real bad if they dont make a move.

Why?
What’s “looking bad?” and does it really matter if you do what’s right given the circumstances.
I think she means that all the pink hat fans are gonna throw a temper tantrum.
Everyone is gonna blame this season on Theo and not making a big move.

And his 3.84 xFIP
.434 BABIPs just don’t happen. Our infield could’ve made him legitimately valuable again.

Theo better tell Tito to get these guys some work.
Tito only used these guys when he absolutely had to, and then they got sent down. We really didn’t get to see what they could do.

Ludwick to the Padres?
Does anyone else think it’s interesting that two 1st place teams are talking? I wonder what SD would give up..
"Winning is the most important thing in my life, after breathing. Breathing first, winning next." -George Michael Steinbrenner III
SD has tons of relief pitching.
The Cardinals haven’t given up many runs, but they may realize it’s not exactly sustainable, necessarily, and could use some shoring up.

For those lamenting inactivity, the Red Sox ARE making moves:
Dustin Pedroia for Eric Patterson – who wouldn’t make that deal?
Jason Varitek for Kevin Cash – plus offense; minus defense.
Michael Bowden for one of the dirties (Atchison or Ramram? see below. Lowrie could also go back down to AAA.)
Felix Doubront for another dirty or Lowrie.
Jacoby Ellsbury for Jeremy Hermida or Darnell McDonald.
As for today, ESPN said they are shopping Ramram to NL teams.
Berkman to the Yanks
Don’t know how I feel about this. Why are the Asros picking up so much salary?

I assume because RamRam got a line drive in the face.
Really complaining about new bullpen blood?
I love Lester and Pedroia!!! ITS MAN LOVE!
Because Richardson is useless when there is even just one guy on base. I’d take Bowden AND/OR Robert Manuel.
Most likely Bowden will be moved up anyway

Pre-Deadline Active Roster
P: Atchsion, Bard, Beckett, Buchholz, Delcarmen, Lackey, Lester, Dice-K, Okajima, Papelbon, Ramirez, Wake
C: Martinez, Cash
IF: Beltre, Hall, Lowrie, Ortiz, Scutaro, Youk
OF: Cameron, Drew, Hermida, McDonald, Patterson
It’ll be interesting to see the Post-Deadline version
what kind of speed does Kalish have?

Above-average

Kalish batting 8th.
I gotta say, I’m a little worried this is rushed. But he hasn’t shown much of a hiccup in Pawtucket, so we’ll see.
I just fear he’ll be the guy who never slumped type. Sure, he had the broken wrist that screwed him up and the BABIP issues to start the year, but I can’t remember him really getting into an honest-to-God slump in the middle of an assignment.

Hermida DFA?
wtf? No, he hasn’t been great this season but we have seen his numbers drop largely because of the rib injury. He at least had some upside and some pop in the bat, on top of that hes still only 26. I know some of you don’t value “clutch” at bats, but he put up some great ones earlier in the season. Why not dump Eric Patterson (assuming this is to clear space for Kalish), Lowrie is back with Hall to back him up in the IF and we still have McDonald.
I just don’t get it.
Hermida is the worst player on this team.
He was already shitty before the rib injury. He was awful after too. He has no plate discipline, can’t play ANY position even remotely well, and can’t even run the basepaths.

He’s versatile and has some speed…I’m not sure hes anything more than a AAAA player. Hermida has proven in years past that he can hit ML pitching in a weak Marlins lineup. I’m not saying I love the guy, but of the two i’d take Hermida any day.
Patterson has done a decent job…still, its a very small sample size.
I would rather have Patterson. He can pinch run.
