Game 102: Red Sox (57-44) @ Angels (52-51) -- July 28, 2010
Boston Red Sox at Los Angeles Angels, Jul 28, 2010 3:35 PM EDT
The Sox go for the sweep in this annoyingly timed getaway game. The Red Sox hand the ball to Josh Beckett, making his second start off the disabled list. Hopefully it will at least resemble his first, just a bit longer. After all, no Bard or Papelbon for the Sox tonight. They're gonna need a ton of runs, or 8+ innings from Papelbon Beckett to have a real shot.
The Angels finally throw someone who isn't an ace in Joel Pineiro.
Or not! So much for Joel! It's bullpen game time!
Unfortunately, the Red Sox are back to looking like a Triple-A team. Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the batter's box...
This one doesn't exactly have "win" written all over it, but let's pull it out anyways. Go Sox!

Using complex logic,

Why is Patt playing CF instead of Dmac,
and why is Hall playing? With Francona’s revolving door, it’s impossible for anyone to get a hot streak.

We need a set lineup.
Dmac-LF
Cam (and Dmac when needed)-CF
Drew-RF
Lowrie-2B
Hall-backeup IF
Patterson- only used as pinch runner

He said before the game yesterday that he was giving Lowrie and Drew a day to rest today (even before Drew's hamstring thing)
some day game after a night game thing. At least on the other side, the angels don’t have Hunter playing and Matsui is in the field. Not exactly their most threatening lineup either.
Hall DOES at least have pretty good numbers against Pineiro.
I assume that DMac is playing right because he’s at least a good corner outfielder, whereas they’re both awful center fielders and Patterson is also an awful corner outfielder. Least awful option, maybe. Not exactly an outfield that inspires confidence.
Lets hope Beckett is at his finest.
Why do Lowrie and Drew need two days off with the off day tomorrow?

Hall and Patterson in the lineup?
why the fuck is Jed not playing?
Franconas such a moron. He really has no clue what he’s doing.
Lets take Jed Lowrie, who is on fire right now, out of the lineup, and replace him for someone far worse on defense.
And, lets plunk Eric, “fuck you John Lester.” Patterson in Center.
Thanks tito, just forfeit the damn game.
Francona's an idiot.
Not angry. Just aggravated. He’s not a good manager at all. He’s lost us at least 5 games this year just by his airhead decision making.
I'd like to see Cameron play everyday but he needs days off with his injury. I don't understand that all why Lowrie isn't playing.
That being said, Lowrie had a big game last night, has been playing well, is better both offensively and defensively than Bill Hall. Since he has been back he hasn’t played every game, there is no reason for him to need rest.
There is also no reason Hall and Lowrie should be splitting time at 2nd…..Lowrie is the better player hands down and should be getting every start.
So your saying Vmart with a broken finger can make night/day starts but Lowrie can’t play two in a row?
Francona just kills anybody's chance of getting hot.
If I were Theo, I’d be sure as hell to get Lowrie into the lineup and maybe build some trade value.

Lowrie's trade stock is really low right now with all the injuries. But he can build value really fast if he puts on an RBI/Doubles show like he did when he was first up with the Sox.
When Lowrie is healthy he is our best backup IF’er
exactly, If he played regularly and played well, he could build value.
He was offered earlier in a potential Iannetta trade.

Hall swings at a lot of fastballs well out of the zone and away.
When he took the pitch for strike 2 on the corner I knew he was striking out on the next pitch because he was going to swing at a pitch away no matter where it was…..and he did.

Negativity
Guy hits a homer in the 2nd inning and you’re already on his case again in the 3rd inning.
This blog has been overrun by negativity and whiners.
I dont give a fuck if he hits a home run in the 2nd.
He grounded into like 5 rally killing double plays in 3 straight games about a week ago.
One homer doesnt override playing like shit for weeks at a time. Sorry.
Um, Hall really is not all that good.
He hits for some power, but that’s pretty much his only redeeming feature. His glove has cost the Sox a huge pile of runs, and his bat when it’s not swinging for the fences seems to provide only K’s and weak ground outs.

Casey Fien cleared waivers and the Tigers outrighted him to Triple A, according to the team (via Twitter). Detroit designated Fien for assignment last weekend.
didnt we claim him in spring training or something?
dont we even have space on our 40 man roster?
i read 38 somewhere….
hmm i wonder what happend to him
or rather why they didnt claim him again
Probably, he has been DFA'd a lot of times this year.

Great Win today!!!
If you told me 10 days ago A’s, M’s and Angels the team we would sweep would be the Angels I’d wouldn’t have believed it.
I still don't believe that just happened.
Fenway: "An alternate and better universe, disguised as a ballpark." --Thomas Boswell
The offense showed up today too.
We scored more than 5!!!
All those 3 – 2, 2 – 1 games lately were scaring me, for us to have a chance in the post season with this shit bullpen we need major run support.
Wish it could've happened during last year's ALDS
But I think I’ll take it. The past is the past, etc. etc.
