a good fit for boston
I have been thinking of somebody that could help boston without taking a spot away from our good starters we have already. i have been hearing alot about jason werth and dejesus but i think i might have found somebody that would fit Fenway Park perfectly. Alfonso Soriano the Cubs left fielder would dominate in Fenway with the monster out there. and the Cubs have said they are cleaning out so i think Boston should go after him instead plus he wouldnt be a rental if im not mistaken he still has 3 years left.
line up
cf elsbury
2b pedroia
c martinex
dh ortiz
1b youk
3b beltre
lf soriano
rf drew
ss scutaro
i think thats a dangerous line up that could compete with any one then just add a couple of relievers and they are right back in the title hunt.

Plus you drop Cameron, who's been one of our hottest hitters.
There’s just no point to this deal at all.

hes hot now
but how long before he gets hurt again plus i think he would be a good 4th outfielder
The farm's strength is the OF,
so I don’t want to get his huge contract and have him block somebody.

dude, he still has like 5 years left on his deal
and that’s NOT an upside. the cubs cry themselves to sleep at night because of that contract.

Just three problems
1) He’s not that good a hitter. A career .327 OBP for a guy who’s going to strike out every fourth time he steps into the batter’s box? I’d take that if it was five years ago and you could count on him for 35-45 HR, but not now.
2) He has a long contract for a lot of money. There’s ample reason the Cubs would love to dump him on someone else.
3) We have several young outfielders who are going to be a lot cheaper and about as good over the next several years.
Also, I know UZR says he's good at defense
but Cubs management seems to disagree, since they rarely let him play a whole game without making a defensive change to replace him at some point.
Yeah, but they're Cubs management
The fact that they don’t think he’s any good in the field should be taken as prima facie evidence that he’s a good outfielder. UZR just confirms it.
No, it’s the free-swinging approach at the plate, the contract length and cost, and the fact that he’d be blocking younger, cheaper, soon to be (if not already) better outfielders are the real problems.
well I buy that Jim Hendry is stupid as stupid comes
but Lou Piniella I’m not so convinced. In any case, yeah that isn’t his biggest issue.
Soriano has a terrible contract
Plus you’re missing his 40/40 or near 40/40 days with the Yanks and Nationals. I love Soriano, but he’s no good to Boston.

The Red Sox taking on this horrible albatross of a contract
would probably be the greatest thing to happen to Chicago since the invention of the deep dish pizza.
I honestly wouldn't take Soriano for free
I would need the Cubs to throw in some good young players and/or prospects… and even then… still not sure I’d want to do it. His contract is that bad and he’s a terrible player.
