Game 100: Red Sox (55-44) @ Angels (52-49)
Boston Red Sox at Los Angeles Angels, Jul 26, 2010 10:05 PM EDT
Wow, those records are a lot closer than I thought.
Things are bad, bad, bad right now in Beantown. The Sox are staring at a five game wild card deficit with the trade deadline coming up, and really can't afford to keep dropping games. If they want to avoid doing that tonight, they'll have to see Clay Buchholz get back on track tonight in his second start off the DL.
They'll also have to hit unlucky ace and the newest Angel, Dan Haren.
They'll have some help in doing that tonight, though. This lineup looks a lot better with Victor Martinez in it:
Go Sox! 'Cause you're running out of time.

Ben, I just put in my 2 cents on your "Red Sox not sellers" thread.
I agree we won’t be sellers. But if they don’t listen to us and decide to sell anyway, no one’s mentioned who I think is the most logical player to go.
Papi.
Papi has 10-5

This is close to the lineup I was waiting to be put on the field until Dusty gets back.....however
I’d rather see JD Drew hitting lead off and Scutaro hitting in the 2 hole.
Scoot has a .370 OBP when leading off the inning.
For whatever it’s worth.

It really just comes down to lack of options, at least in Hermida's case. MDC, I don't know, but the bull pen is mostly all the same at the point,
(Atch/Bard/Paps aside)
Why not give Manuel or Bowden a longer chance?
They can’t be any worse

I agree, both are worth a shot over RamRam/MDC/Oki or at least they can't be worst.
I didn’t mean not to give them a shot, I mean more it doesn’t have to be MDC they replace in the pen, it could be anyone.
Close your eyes throw a dart at the guys in the pen whoever it hits odds are Manuel/Bowden would deserve a shot over them.
So we're supposed to have worse players just because of options?

It seems like he wants to be able to hold onto as many pitchers as possible despite the quality.
Nava being sent down was a perfect example of it, Nava was the only replacement player in July who was hitting over .250 avg or had an OPB of over .300.
Nava is sent down because he still has options.
Mcdonald or Nava can be a fine 4th OF if everyone is healthy.
I don’t buy this options bullshit. So what if we get rid of Hermida? He isn’t any better than Nava or Dmac.

Too many games carrying 3-4 hitters who belong either on the bench or the minors.
That brought our offense to a grinding halt.

When you are cold – it gets caught by the SS.
I like the look of the Aug schedule much better than July.
Get through this Angels series, get a limping Tigers team, Indians then a 10 game road trip that starts w/ 4 in NY. I’m looking forward to seeing the a Yanks with a full squad, well, I’d be surprised if Pedey is back by then, but Ellsbury should be. Then 3 in TOR isn’t bad, 3 in TEX is but they won’t be as hot as they are right now. LAA, TOR and SEA at home is a chance to make up ground, then @ Tampa.
Aug 15, be w/in 5 of WC and is a reachable goal..
I heard Ellsbury's weight is up to 260 lbs.

FUCKING PATTERSON IS USELESS
He HOLDS THE DAMN BAT WRONG.
You can’t bunt if you hold the batt down by the handle. You have to put your hand out on the barrel and ‘catch’ the ball.
That is baseball fundamentals.
Gawd - now Sutaro can't even bunt.
Though I like the idea of bunting there for a hit.
Though – a HR down the line would have been even nicer …. just foul … damn
At least it was a drag bunt.
That you have to get in position for quickly. It’s understandable to fuck that up.
