Game 100: Red Sox (55-44) @ Angels (52-49)

Boston Red Sox at Los Angeles Angels, Jul 26, 2010 10:05 PM EDT

Wow, those records are a lot closer than I thought.

Things are bad, bad, bad right now in Beantown. The Sox are staring at a five game wild card deficit with the trade deadline coming up, and really can't afford to keep dropping games. If they want to avoid doing that tonight, they'll have to see Clay Buchholz get back on track tonight in his second start off the DL.

W-L G GS CG SHO SV BS IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP
2010 - Clay Buchholz 10-5 16 16 1 1 0 0 96.0 83 36 30 5 41 66 2.81 1.29

They'll also have to hit unlucky ace and the newest Angel, Dan Haren.

W-L G GS CG SHO SV BS IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP
2010 - Dan Haren 7-8 23 21 1 0 0 0 141.0 161 79 72 23 29 141 4.60 1.35

They'll have some help in doing that tonight, though. This lineup looks a lot better with Victor Martinez in it:

Go Sox! 'Cause you're running out of time.

I agree, both are worth a shot over RamRam/MDC/Oki or at least they can't be worst.

I didn’t mean not to give them a shot, I mean more it doesn’t have to be MDC they replace in the pen, it could be anyone.

Close your eyes throw a dart at the guys in the pen whoever it hits odds are Manuel/Bowden would deserve a shot over them.

It seems like he wants to be able to hold onto as many pitchers as possible despite the quality.

Nava being sent down was a perfect example of it, Nava was the only replacement player in July who was hitting over .250 avg or had an OPB of over .300.

Nava is sent down because he still has options.

by ruktuim on Jul 26, 2010 10:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Mcdonald or Nava can be a fine 4th OF if everyone is healthy.

I don’t buy this options bullshit. So what if we get rid of Hermida? He isn’t any better than Nava or Dmac.

neither of them are educated fans

or have any sense of the history of the game, how the game is played/managed/built these days, what is important to a club. Both fans lose the forest for the trees. But the rays only have the cowbell. The halos have the thunder sticks and the monkey. The rays fans are idiots. The Halos are both idiots AND conspiracy theorists.

by Fenway302 on Jul 27, 2010 12:13 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

No, he wouldn't of.

It looks like Lowrie’s slow to cross because he has to hold up and wait for the toss. The ball takes forever to get to Scutaro because it’s weakly hit.

I like the look of the Aug schedule much better than July.

Get through this Angels series, get a limping Tigers team, Indians then a 10 game road trip that starts w/ 4 in NY. I’m looking forward to seeing the a Yanks with a full squad, well, I’d be surprised if Pedey is back by then, but Ellsbury should be. Then 3 in TOR isn’t bad, 3 in TEX is but they won’t be as hot as they are right now. LAA, TOR and SEA at home is a chance to make up ground, then @ Tampa.

Aug 15, be w/in 5 of WC and is a reachable goal..

I was just thinking "Atchison has been to the bullpen what Clay was to the rotation last year."

Y’know, solid guy who can not completely fuck up.

After that homer, Atchison’s ERA is 4.21—exactly what Buck’s was at the end of last season.

Fuck you, universe.

’16 for Teix.

Actually, Holliday’s ‘17 is a club option. But technically because of how the contract is structured they’ll be paying him through 2029.

I’m not joking.

FUCKING PATTERSON IS USELESS

He HOLDS THE DAMN BAT WRONG.

You can’t bunt if you hold the batt down by the handle. You have to put your hand out on the barrel and ‘catch’ the ball.

That is baseball fundamentals.

by mmmmm on Jul 27, 2010 1:01 AM EDT reply actions

Gawd - now Sutaro can't even bunt.

Though I like the idea of bunting there for a hit.

Though – a HR down the line would have been even nicer …. just foul … damn

it's pretty simple

Give each ump a Dell Streak or Evo 4g, and let them see whether they’re right or wrong within a half-second. And MLB gets the single biggest sponsorship deal in history from a wireless company AND device manufacturer.

Say Ben - to answer your earlier question

Yes, Paps is good against the Angels.

For his career, the Angels have only hit .150/.218/.225 (87 PAs) against Papelbon, going into this game.

Of course – those numbers don’t include the great f**k up of last year’s playoff.
