Three way deal?
I was watching sports center and TIm Kurkjian was saying that if SP Roy Oswalt is dealt the Phils could be VERY intrested. He also said it would more then likely take a three way deal, and that Werth will be a likely be in that deal. The Phils are in need of starting pitching, the Astros are in need of prospects, and the Sox......well OF is just one of the weakspots at this point. With all the talk of David DeJesus coming to beantown, I could see Theo looking in to this. Werth, imo, is a much better player than DeJesus, and seems a perfect fit for the Sox, not only for this season but a possible long term deal. My question is what do you think it will take the Sox to get a piece of this deal (the piece being Werth)? Oswalt is going to cost a lot, but if the Phils give a couple prospects, we give more (possibly many more) and Phils give us Werth as a thanks. I would love to see him in a Sox jersey, but what will it cost? And is Werth, worth it (only a small pun intended)?

Not a huge Werth fan
On offensive weapon no doubt…but his defense leaves a lot to be desired and he’ll cost a ton (in this case prospects + $$)
He's been down the last year-and-a-half
He’s in negative UZR range for this season, and his UZR/150 last year was 4.5 — good but not great — after being double digits most of his career.
I think I’d still take him over Ellsbury if we think we’re going to have two MLB ready outfielders in the next couple of years — you’d give up something on defense if Ellsbury is in left, and you’d definitely lose something on the basepaths, but it evens out at bat. Plus, for right now, he’d be a huge upgrade over Patterson/Hall. But as with all trades, it depends on exactly what we’d have to give up to get him.
yeah, I dunno, I just don't trust a half season of UZR
and 4.5 is just fine, I wouldn’t say that leaves a lot to be desired, we’re talking a good outfielder for the rest of the year and then getting draft picks from him, not inducting him into the hall of fame.
My impression is that he's an average defensive outfielder at best.
And that he’s only getting older, which won’t help. Not bad enough to be a horrendous liability though, especially with the value his bat provides.
Sign him to a 2 year deal in the offseason,
unless we want Kalish to play. Then make Cameron the 4th OF.

He won't sign a 2-year deal.
Someone will give him 3 or 4.

Doubrant is definitely a good chip to use now, and I would think Jake would be a part of any deal for another OF.
Werth seems tough to acquire –
Doubrant & Jake to the HOU might be enough for Oswalt but I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t. Even if that is enough to get him I’m not sure I want to give up that much for a rental.
I like the rumors about Iannetta starting again, that’s a short term and long term opportunity for the Sox. Maybe there’s a package of Doubrant & Lowrie that gets you Iannetta & Beimel or Betancourt…or something like that. This would be something I’d prefer more.
David theJesus I like, but I have no idea what you’d need to give to get him and if you do so are you moving Jake also? Otherwise you’ve got 4 MLB OFs on the roster.
Cam would be the 4th OF if we traded for another OF.
Lowrie for Iannetta was already turned down because Colorado isn’t sure that Helton is coming back (Iannetta would play 1B). If Iannetta is traded, it will be in the offseason.

Could be Jake also
I think Scutaro has done well enough at lead off that Cam’s defense plus the added pop at the bottom of the order would be more advantageous the Jake playing CF.
I think Iannetta could be moved earlier then this offseason, the NL West is pretty WFO, and the Rockies are lacking a lefties, pending Jeff Francis, so Doubrant may be of interest to them as part of a deal that moves a pretty expensive 4A catcher for them right now
I don't think any chance Ellsbury comes back as a 4th outfielder
for one thing, that would just diminish his trade value if they did trade him. For another thing, Cameron is still injured and won’t be playing every day. If Ells is going to be having to move to center fairly often anyways, they’d probably just rather keep him there. Also, he is a useful player. All is moot though unless they do get another outfielder, which I doubt.
Ianetta stops being interesting to the Red Sox in about a week. Martinez will be back and Tek isn’t that far behind. He might become interesting again over the offseason, depending on whether Martinez has the same kinds of contract ideas in his head as the Sox do. I don’t think Doubront is that interesting to any team looking for an immediately ready starter, because he really isn’t major league ready yet.
He'd be a rental player as well
I’m not sure if that was said anywhere in the comments.. but werth (PUN ALERT) a mention

Would be nice to get werth for 2 reasons he could give us some good pop in fenway and basically the other reason to keep from tampa and ny from getting him.
Tampa won't get him in free agency, so I don't really care if they want to rent him.
