Red Sox Nation, it could be a lot worse...
...consider the priorities of the Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Baltimore Orioles.
Yes, Peter G. Angelos is busy insuring a successful future...for his law practice.
While browsing OpenSecrets.org to have a look at who's giving
campaign cash to whom...I took a glance at House Speaker Nancy
Pelosi's donors.
#1 on the her list of donors?
"Law Offices of Peter G. Angelos"
So far this cycle (2009-2010) the firm has accounted
for $43,200 on Pelosi's campaign warchest. This is more
than Johnson & Johnson ($17,100)...AFL-CIO ($10,000)...Microsoft
($11,000)...and the Teamsters ($10,000).
It's nice to know that while his team languishes 28-games out
of first place (and it's mid-July, people)...Mr. Angelos can find
the time (AND MONEY) to make sure he protects his vital interests.
That is of course the profitability of his trail lawfirm.
It's been 13 long years since the last play-off appearance by the Orioles.
(Thank you very little, Jeffrey Maier! By the way...do you and Steve Bartman get
together for beers these days?)
But fear not!
Mr. Angelos is out scouting for the future...making sure Speaker Pelosi and
the House Democrats know he's willing to go the extra mile for success...theirs
and his.
And besides, everybody knows is easier (and FAR cheaper) to wield influence
over Congress...than in the American League East.

Pretty sure I read all off-season that the Oriole's were stronger than we all thought they were
And that they could be a surprise contender. I’m still waiting for that.

Well...
…if they were to contend, I for one would certainly be surprised.
Wait 'til next/this year?

I'm not sure anyone expected them to be a contender
But I expected them to be a bit better than they were before… I was wrong
hrm to be honest with you
I’m not sure that $43,200 would make a huge difference to the Oriole’s playoff chances. Considering that is, you know, 10% of the league minimum salary.
I mean, the teams are run as businesses. The amount of money that goes into the team is dependant on the amount of money they make in revenue from the team. Pretty much all the owners have other significant sources of revenue, so they aren’t shoving all their money into the teamm. I don’t think that the Orioles really thought they would be competing for a playoff spot this year, so I certainly wouldn’t expect them to shove every last dime possible into the team this year.
Haha I'm sure John Henry and Co don't do business during the season
to focus entirely on baseball.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
Well...
…that and building Franken-Sox from the healthy portions of the DL squad.
