Red Sox Draft Garin Cecchini (SS, High School)
With the 143rd overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft, the Red Sox selected shortstop Garin Cecchini out of Barbe High School (La.).
Here is a scouting video on Cecchini.
Cecchini is another tough-sign kind of guy who has already committed to play at LSU next year. He did not play in 2010 as an injured kept him off the diamond. The injury, plus his commitment to LSU, prevented him from being a first round draft pick this year.
Once again, the Red Sox have drafted a player with a high ceiling and one that will demand a lot of money to play pro ball. But that's how the Red Sox work -- and they're not afraid to work that way, either.
I don't expect to see Cecchini stick at shortstop. He could be a corner infielder or perhaps outfielder in the pro ranks.

Should be a 3B
Really like this pick. He was out all year and despite that some still thought of him as a Supp. talent, and we take him in the 4th

The Sawdaye Team seems to have their ducks in a row
and I like the overall strategy. Time will tell but the early reviews are solid across the board.
They try and sign Top 10 picks
Last year they did Top 5 rounds, their 6th rounder went to college. I think everyone so far should sign, but it’ll be expensive

Yeah, Kline was the only one who left.
But man…there is some big money in this draft right now. Then again…
Klaw (1:50 PM)
Potential top 50 overall pick who missed most of the spring after blowing out his ACL. I bet you [Cecchini] signs.
USG
Yeah, not surprising
I remember Law or Callis saying Cecchini wanted to sign and go pro, that’s why he was talked about as a possibility in the Supp. to a team with multiple picks

Could be...
OTOH, lots of college guys who aren’t going back. Workman wasn’t looking for more than slot if he went 1st round. We’ve already agreed with Vitek and Brentz if you believe the reports… the tough sign is Ranaudo.

Agreed with Coyle too.
3/6
Workman
Cecchini
Ranaudo
In order of “likelihood,” though all will likely be 7-figures.
USG
Oh right, saw that KLaw report and totally forgot about it.
Workman should sign. Cecchini should too.
I bet they don’t even know if they want to sign Ranaudo yet… probably just dying to get him in and go over him with a fine tooth comb.
They’re certainly dropping lots of money… but its not like they’re busting slot left and right.

On Ranaudo,
can you see Boras using a strategy of playing him in the Cape Cod League with wooden bats this summer? He would bring crowds on the Cape. I believe, if he hasn’t signed, that he would still qualify for the league.
Yeah, pretty sure he's going to the Cape
Get his value up a bit more hopefully

Could be a tough sign.
The kid likes LSU, which is as big a baseball college as there is. For those who aren’t familiar, LSU has won the most national championships in the past 20 years (including last year), has just built a brand new stadium, and can draw AAA type crowds in attendance. It’s as popular as, say, the men’s basketball team, which has been to a few Final Fours themselves. The fact that the Sox took Ranaudo probably helps, though.
Dont, The only guy Im concerned about is Ranuado

What a class act.
Hopefully that rubs off on some of the chowds in your system!
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
oh that sucks, I was just starting to like him
