Goodbye, Boof!

Amalie Benjamin is reporting that Boof Bonser has apparently been DFAd to make Room for Felix Doubront to start tonight.  Personally, I didn't think Bonser had much more rope before he'd be let go, but I was pretty sure that they'd send down Dustin Richardson for this start.  Maybe they're hoping he's up to stay.

That DRich stays, that Boof goes bye-bye

Or both?

That Boof goes.

I refuse to call Dustin Richardson “DRich”. You should be ashamed of yourself Mr. 1c

You're right

As penance, I shall say five “Large Fathers” and offer a sacrifice of burnt hair clippings to the Bearded One.

Wait time to bring Richardson back an issue?

If they needed another bullpen arm for whatever reason, they’d have to wait 10 days before bringing Richardson back, right?

could be

also, this WOULD clear up a 40 man spot so they could keep an open spot and still bring someone new in ::cough:: ROBERTMANUEL ::cough::

Right,

or if the MLB team has an injury, they can call someone who has been sent down back up early. So there is one way around the 10 day waiting rule.

We did this in 2005 or 2006, right?

I thought it involved MDC in some way, and people were saying the Sox were “creative” with the rules.

I'm only ever going to say this once

and I seriously hope that Doubront does well (as long as it doesn’t break his brain), but I’d like an effective Beckett back. An effective, effective Beckett.

If it’s a choice of seeing the Wakefield Goodbye Tour vs. Beckett then I’m not sure what I’d choose, but Beckett instead of Matsuzaka+the 20 starts Matsuzaka misses is easy. I hate having a floating starter in 2 spots.

the injuries this year have just been absurd

Beckett, Tazawa, Bonser, Dice-K, and that’s just to the rotation and rotation depth. We know Wake probably won’t make it through the year.

Still, at least PAul Byrd isn’t there (yet)

Goddammit

Mentioning mediocre starting pitchers returns them to existence.

felix

he obviously is going to be good eventually i think they brought him up a bit to early though you don’t want to hurt his confidence while he is still devolaping

Not a surprise

My question is whether I’m the only one that finds the “nerdy look” on Amalie Benjamin hot as hell.

by ritz on Jun 18, 2010 5:22 PM EDT reply actions

Oh, Boof

We hardly knew ye. Now get the hell out of Boston and never ever come back.

Felix time! I’ve been waiting for this quite awhile now.

Whoever said it doesn't matter whether you win or lose, probably lost.

He should definitely come back

Two caveats: he has to pitch just as well as he did for us, and he has to do it as a member of the MFY pitching staff.

Bonser vs. Richardson

I’m not terribly surprised that Boof was the odd man out. Barring an outstanding start, I wonder whether Doubront will be sent down after the start, bring up another reliever until Matsuzaka (hopefully) makes his next scheduled start. In the interim, Richardson gets a few weeks to show that he can stick in the pen for the entire year.

Manuel seems like the logical choice

The FO will have a 6 week opportunity to evaluate internal bullpen options before making a trade deadline deal. Barring any unforeseen injuries, we will likely see the following moves:

Doubront for Bonser
Manuel for Doubront
Matsuzaka for Atchinson
Beckett for Ramirez, Ohkajima, Richardson or Manuel
Trade candidate for Ramirez, Ohkajima, Richardson or Manuel

Hey Hey Hey! Goodbye!

Why’d the Sox sign him again? Because of how silly his name was?

They've been short on truly goofy names ever since Trot Nixon left.

After the Boof failure, they've decided to switch to awesome names.

Thus the drafting of guys like Roderick Shoulders and Mason Justice.

In that picture

Is that the ball being delivered to the plate, or the inevitable ball hit safely into play afterwards? I can’t tell…
