Red Sox, Top Pick Kolbrin Vitek Reach Agreement
More questionable are players like Anthony Ranaudo and Garrin Cecchini, who will play summer ball before they sit down to negotiate, and Brandon Workman, who let teams know he would not be signing for supplemental or second round slot money.

Ranaudo
was quoted saying he wants to play in the Cape league and then he will sign with the Sox. So I don’t think he is really in question.
Definitely
If Boras doesn’t get good money for him, he’ll send him to the independent leagues for a year to drum up his status back to the top-5 area.

Couldn’t he also return to LSU?
But I think we sign him. As much as everyone bitches about Boras, Theo seems to have a pretty good relationship with the guy.
"Ninety percent [of my salary] I'll spend on good times, women, and Irish whiskey. The other ten percent I'll probably waste."
-Tug McGraw
He really doesn't want to return to LSU
-If he doesn’t return to form next year his stock would plummet
-His leverage would be much worse than this year (in terms of going back to school again)
-The draft next year is much deeper and better.
Good chance we sign him. Like i said the other day, there’s been a lot of talk we’ve already agreed with Cecchini, too. Ranaudo is going to the Cape and will be the tough sign. Everyone else is going to sign and were just awesome picks.

yeah but the Cape league thing is just to boost his value
if he really was gonna sign no matter what, he’d just sign and start pitching for a Sox affiliate immediately. So if the Sox aren’t willing to pay what he and Boras think he’s worth, they’ll wait it out. I’m sure he does want to start his pro career and sign, but is sending the message that he wants a good deal and won’t sign just for the sake of signing. Which is fair, if he is healed, he seems like absolute robbery as a 39 pick.
I think all three will be inked
Ranaudo – Unless he performs poorly this summer and/or he suddenly starts asking for top 5 money, I think he gets something close to $2.5M. I don’t believe the Sox receive compensation if he doesn’t sign so they will be motivated to get a deal done.
Workman – Wanting first round money, I’m guessing he comes in somewhere between $1M to $1.1M.
Cecchini – Isn’t there a rumored deal for $1.6M already in place? If so, it may just be a matter of waiting to the deadline to announce.
To me the bigger questions will be how many other (if any) signability picks (Perkins, Price, Duke and Jaffe). I’m guessing Perkins and maybe Jaffe but that will be it.
Did anybody hear that we almost drafted Allie?

I’ll try and find it. I think I saw it online, but Allie is a local kid for me, and people close to him and other knowledgeable people said the sox called him. He supposedly told them not to draft him due to monetary reasons.

I can't find the article, but I heard it from a reputable person.
Plus, I’ve also heard it from kids that go to his school.

Not a big loss
I think Vitek will be a better player and signed for slot. Allie has an electric arm but he seems destined for the bullpen.
I didn't want him.
He can throw fast, but really doesn’t have great control or good secondary pitches. IMO, he is raw and would take a long time to develop. He’s obviously got the FB, but I think his secondary pitch is a below average slider. So basically you’re drafting a hard thrower with the hopes you can make him a pitcher.

The Red Sox have reached an agreement with their first round draft pick Kolbrin Vitek, per a Keith Law tweet. If all goes well with his physical, Vitek should be signed and hopefully playing short-season ball before too long.
While it’s good to get these deals done, Vitek was never really in doubt. It wasn’t long after the Red Sox made their pick that word started to spread that the team already had a verbal agreement in place. Supplemental pick Bryce Brentz and third rounder Sean Coyle are also rumored to be all-but-signed.
