Minor Lines 5/31/10: Portland Power!
My but the bats were hot in Portland today. For both teams, unfortunately. But one of those bats is on its way up the ladder.
Pawtucket W 4-1
Daniel Nava: 0-4, 2 K
Lars Anderson: 0-3, BB, 2 K
Aaron Bates: 1-4, K
Josh Reddick: 1-3, 2B, BB
-Robbed of a long ball.
Michael Bowden: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K
-The rare impressive outing from mister Bowden. Hopefully the start of a trend.
Robert Manuel: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
Ryan Kalish finishes up his sub-jump run with a tidy little game.
Portland W 10-6
Che-Hsuan Lin: 0-1, K
Ryan Kalish: 2-4, 2B, BB
-Perhaps the most sudden regression to the mean I've ever seen.
Luis Exposito: 2-4, 2B, HR, BB
-Absolute bomb over the Maine Monster. Probably would've cleared Lansdowne.
Anthony Rizzo: 3-5, HR, 1 K
-Swing looked inconsistent to me, but when it's looking good, it's looking very good. And since I need a new preview guy, Tony's up!
Yamaico Navarro: 1-4, HR
Casey Kelly: 4 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
-See this post for more on his underwhelming outing.
Salem L 3-4 (In 10)
Pete Hissey: 0-5, 2 K
Oscar Tejeda: 0-5, 4 K
Will Middlebrooks: 1-4, 2 K
Ryan Lavarnway: 0-3, BB, K
Ryan Dent: 0-3, K
Alex Wilson: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 1 HR
-This promotion is probably a good bit overdue. Between his age and his numbers, Wilson has to be due in Portland soon.
Greenville L 0-4
Jeremy Hazelbaker: 0-4, BB, 2 K
Derrik Gibson: -13, BB
Chris McGuiness: 1-4, 2 K
Michael Almanzar: 1-4

I was going to ask who would be the next guy to preview...
Rizzo is certainly the right answer.

If these three all perform well..
We obviously don’t have room for more than one of these guys in Boston, but does that make Drew possible trade bait? Or anyone else like Hermida? If they really prove themselves in Pawtucket I don’t know how you can’t justify keeping them down there. I’m not talking about immediate action, but definitely for next year.
I don't think Boston would trade Drew
More likely to trade Ellsbury in that outfield.

Yeah
The only way they would trade Drew is if the team was out of the race next year because Drew’s contract ends after next year.

Definitely.
Though I doubt they make any move before they’re really sure Kalish can handle the majors. He’s got the skills that transfer well, but it’s always a question mark.

I hope they don’t trade Ells

I still think he's worth more in a trade than he is to us.
Someone out there will overrate speed and contact and underrate reads and discipline.

Guys who steal 70 bases don’t come around everyday. Think of this outfield: Ellsbury cf, Reddick RF, Kalish lf. Pretty good

Steals are nice, but not really a huge deal. Even 70 are only worth about 10 runs over the course of a season.
Other teams, however, might consider that to be a tool on the same level of a .400 OBP or .500 SLG type guy. Which it just isn’t.
