Minor Lines 5/16/10: Fuentes on Fire
Pawtucket W 3-1
Box Score
On a bit of a roll now, this team.
Josh Reddick: 0-5, 2 K
-But Josh is still in freefall.
Daniel Nava: 2-4, 2B, K
Aaron Bates: 1-3, BB, K
Jorge Jimenez: 4-4, 2B
-On quite the hot streak, actually.
Adam Mills: 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Patient Kalish, K'ing Kalish. After the jump.
Portland W 4-3
Che-Hsuan Lin: 0-2, BB
Ryan Kalish: 1-3, 2 BB, 2 K
Luis Exposito: 2-5, 2 2B, 1 K
Anthony Rizzo: 2-4, 2B, BB
-Through 6 games, Rizzo's biggest problem in Salem--strikeouts--have actually gone down. 4 in 6 games, to go with 4 walks. If he can keep it up, he'll rocket up the rankings.
Yamaico Navarro: 1-5, 2 K
Jose Iglesias: 0-4, 3 K
Stephen Fife: 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HR
Jason Rice: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
Salem W 3-2
Pete Hissey: 0-3, 2 BB, 2 K
Oscar Tejeda: 1-5, 2 K, CS
Will Middlebrooks: 2-5, 2B
-Struck out 3 times on May 14th, but has surrounded that with 4 0-K games. 4 walks in the same time period, no less.
Ryan Lavarnway: 1-4
Tim Federowicz: 2-4, 2B
Ryan Dent: 2-3, BB, E
Brock Huntzinger: 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Greenville W 8-1
Box Score
A rare offensive explosion for the Drive. Without Chris McGuiness, no less.
Reymond Fuentes: 4-5, 2B, 3B, K, SB
-What I like to see. No doubting this guy's speed.
Derrik Gibson: 1-5
Jeremy Hazelbaker: 0-5, 2 K
-I don't know if the DL trip just messed him up, or if he's got a nagging injury. But on the verge of a breakout sort of year, Hazelbaker has dissapeared.
Michael Almanzar: 0-4, BB, K
Kendal Volz: 4 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 1 HR
-Second straight game with a walk allowed, but given that that's just 2 on the season, we can probably let it slide.

Westmoreland recently asked his son how he was feeling, and the response the father received didn't surprise him. "I'm going to be in Portland next year," Ryan said.

Nava has been looking very good at AAA.
.320/.405/.531/.937 in 36 games. Anyone know how much of that average is babip? Also, over the last two years he has a babip of ~.400 in 146 games.
BABIP is .361 (Today game not included) It’s not something outrageous: His line drive percentage is 34.4%!!!
Actually his luck adjusted batting line is .357/.445/.590 so we can say that he was unlucky ;)

If he keeps this up, is there any way we can see him play in the majors?
Seems like we have a lot of OF, and he doesn’t seem to garner much attention for his potential. Do we keep him in AAA just for depth even if he keeps tearing it up?
Pawsox all playing well, except Reddick.
Jimmenez and Nava have been very solid, and I believe Bates has a nice hitting streak going.
What do people know about Romero? Who is this guy?

If we had a best case scenario
and Lars and Rizzo both turned out to be studs, what do you think the Sox would do? Look to get something yummy in a trade, put one at first and one at DH, or switch someone to a new position? I hope this is a problem we have in the future.
They'd probably just bury one of them/keep him on a shuttle between the bigs and Pawtucket
Like they did with Youk.

Trade
I’d like to have the ability to trade excess for something we need.
I think Rizzo is the Red Sox 1B of the future

We'd have to add him to the 40 man.
Which means we risk losing someone else.
Not worth it. Especially when Van Every and Hall are clearly superior options with MLB experience and with Cameron and perhaps Ells on the cusp of a return.

Van Every is out of options so when hes sent down he’ll be taken off the 40 man anyway

are you sure about that?
Sox prospects has him listed as having an option year left. I don’t think he’s used more than 2008 and 2009. Macdonald is out.
Really? I thought he was out.
McDonald is? Crap.
